In Memory of Steve ~ (Debra Estep)

July 29, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Steve, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

Family of Sgt. Steve A. McCoy. I know what you are going through at this moment. My brother Cpl. Jose "Joe" A. RubioHernandez was in that same Bradley with Sgt. McCoy. He has been gone since March 24th and not a day goes by that I do not wish my brother was here with all his family. All of my family, his wife and son miss him so much. Sometimes all of this feels like a dream that will end soon. God is the only one that has given all of us strength and God will help all of you to closure. God is so mercyful that he will lead all of you to the pace of mind needed while coping with such a great loss. Your family and all those families that are hurting for the loss of a loved one are in my prayers. Thanks to the family of Sgt. Steve A. McCoy for supporting him when he decided to serve his country. The whole nation is greatful for all the soldiers that have given the ultimate sacrifice for Freedom.

Thank you for the sacrifice made by Sgt McCoy and the sacrifice made by everyone who loves and misses him! May God bless all of you!!

Tabitha,
I offer my deepest sympathy. I remember when you guys first got to Stewart and Steve was so worried about getting you and the twins (on the way) taken care of!

He was an amazing man, and loving father. I can honestly say that he was one of the best soldiers and "people" I had the honor to know and serve with in 15 years of military service.
Steve never complained, always smiled, and he cared very deeply for his family and army buddies. I was a privilege to know him and an honor to be his commander.

Please let me know if I can ever help you in any way!

My sincere sympathies go out to the McCoy family. May God bless and comfort you in your time of mourning. Thank you, Steve, for your heroic sacrifice. May you rest in the arms of Jesus now.

July 7, 2008

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I would also like to tell you about a website, http://groups.msn.com/SSPSoldierPor
traits/homepage,
where some wonderful people will make wood portraits of your fallen Hero for free for the immediate family. I became aware of this site when I wanted to do something special for Le Ron’s mother.

To the family and parents of Steve I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many questions as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. May God continue to be with you and heal you.

June 25, 2008

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

You now have a tremendous job on your hands raising Landon and Riley without a father present. They will always have a father in their hearts and I know you will constantly remind them of their father's love and devotion for them. I know you will be strong for their sakes. Hold them close for as long as you can, before you know it they will be grown. Always know that if there is anything we can do, please let us know. You are always in our prayers. One memory all of our friends have of Steve is one night watching him shimmy up a pine tree!! We were all amazed and in shock. We are so saddened by the loss of our Hero and True American Soldier. During this very difficult time and for days ahead, I pray that God will surround this family with His love. We will always remember Steve for the great sacrifice he paid for our freedom. Steve will always hold a special place in our hearts. We salute you, Sgt. Steve McCoy...now, "Go Rest High On That Mountain".

Tabitha, I know words can't take away the sadness you feel, but I want you to know that I care very deeply about you and all that you're going through. I believe every soul receives a guardian angel at birth. Invisible, these angels never leave us, day or night. So, when the time came when Steve's journey in life ended, I know his angel walked beside him like a kind, familiar friend. And when he left behind the only place he had ever known, I know his angel said... "You're home my child...you're home." May you find comfort in knowing that your loving husband has been guided gently home. Please know that you and your extended family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I know that losing a child must be one of the hardest things a parent will ever endure and our hearts break for the parents who gave birth to this son..., so to Sam and Pam, I wanted to share a poem with you that our daughter (Tammy) wrote in Steve's memory:

You Took My Hand

As a baby,
You took my hand.
You taught me to play "patty cake" and how to walk.

As a small child.
You took my hand.
You showed me how to give big hugs and love others.

As a young teenager,
You took my hand.
You showed me how to overcome some of life's challenges and never give up.

As a young adult, you took my hand.
You encouraged me to fight for Our Country's Freedom.

But when you took my hand and softly handed it to Jesus... You helped me live forever!

I thank you... that YOU took my hand.

Words fail us at a time like this. You are one of the strongest young women I have ever known. God bless you on the journey before you. Only you can keep Steve alive for your twins. Always tell them what a wonder he was. He was a blessing to everyone who knew him. Just to see the two of you together, anyone could see the strong bond between you. It is so scarce to find that type of love in todays fast paced world. Life will be difficult in the months and years ahead, but you have the most important thing left behind when we leave this world. Our children. We love you and are thinking of you.

I did not know Sgt. McCoy, nor do I know his family or friends, but on August 24th I will run in his honor as part of the Run for the Fallen tribute to our service members.

I chose Sgt. McCoy because he passed on the same day my son turned 18 and became a Private in the United States Army.

Deepest condolences to the McCoy family.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Sgt. Steve A. McCoy our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Steve. And to Steve it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made in combat while serving the U.S. Army and his country. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Steve, you are a true Warrior, a brave Patriot and our Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,385 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Steve’s family and loved ones.

Tabitha - I've one of many who never met you or Steve but was was touched deeply by his battle for life. Surely the Lord spared him so that he would bring Light into our lives in these past months of prayer. Because of his injury, I've contemplated soldiers, their commitment to our protection, and their families' willingness to live with their service and the risk, in ways that had never occurred to me before. I know that your children will grow up reading these notes and hearing about Steve from friends and family; but please share with them that even strangers were touched by what their Daddy believed in and endured. Your family will remain in my prayers.

To The McCoy Family:
Your family has lost a great piece to its puzzle. A son, father, and husband and this country has lost a great soldier and fighter for our many freedoms. But I, have lost a great friend. Even though I did not keep in touch with Steve after school I knew where he would be... doing what he was remarkable at. Doing what he loved. He touched my life deeply in the years that I knew him so I can only imagine how he touched the lives of his mother, father, wife and precious children. Tabitha, no words can explain my sympathy. You lost your best friend and I will be praying for you always. Please tell your sons that their daddy was one of the most awsome, friendly, motivated, loving people that this world has ever met and it was truly an honor to have known him. He was, is and always will be a true American Hero...Thank You so Much For Your Sacrifice Steve....You will live on forever through your children and with God's unfailing grace we will meet again.....................

The Last Inspection
The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward no, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No Lord I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times My talk was tough. And sometimes I've been violent, Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime, When the bills got just too steep. And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God, forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place, Among the people here.
They never wanted me around, Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much, But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod. As the soldier waited quietly, For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, you soldier, You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's Streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

God Bless you and your family
