Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith:
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Kevin's death. I knew him when he was in the Navy and he was one of the most dedicated and patriotic Sailors I have ever seen. To hear that he went over to the National Guard so that he could "do more" does not surprise me at all, given the supreme character of this man. I miss going to Rota with him, seeing his truck on base and most of all I miss the way he "took charge" and motivated his junior Sailors. I hope his family is granted some small measure of comfort knowing that Kevin was loved and respected by many. Rest easy, brother.

My thoughts and prayers for you and your family.
I am assigned to the Mazar-e-Sharif area near where SGT. Grieco worked. I served with with many of his fellow soldiers and attended his memorial service on 1 November at Camp Spann. I could only empathize with his soldiers when I saw the grieving they were going through.
May God continue to hold you and council you in the depth of His love.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Sgt Kevin Grieco our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Kevin. And to Kevin it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made in combat while serving the U.S. Army and his country. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Kevin, you are a brave Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,409 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Kevin’s family and loved ones.

Kevin, god bless you soldier and thank you for your service to a grateful nation, forever we will mourn you and all of our fallen heroes both before and after you. On 5/6/08 my nephew PFC Aaron J. Ward was killed in action in Iraq while on a routine patrol. My promise to him was that I would never forget him but also those fallen before and after him. When I made that promise to him the day we laid him to his final resting place I did not realize how often I would need to make entries on Legacy and it just breaks my heart knowing that so many other families have and will continue to feel the pain that our family has endured. To the Grieco family please accept my heart felt condolences and my prayer that god help you cope with this tragic loss and may the memories of your HERO carry you through each day. From one Gold Star family to another we will never forget Kevin!

To Our Next Door Neighbor,
We are so sad to hear of your loss -we remember seeing Kevin many times outside washing his truck or putting the little ones in the truck with his wife for a family outing! One day he told us he was going away to Afghanistan for one year and to please watch for his family -- we said we would -- we told him thank you for defending the freedoms of our country and that we were proud of him -- his face beamed! That was the last time we saw him -- we will always have these nice memories of him but most of all we will remember that proud smile of a soldier! Thank you again, Kevin -- and God Bless your family and loved ones you left behind -- we are right next door if you need us!

Kevin's Family,
My deepest sorrow. The loss of a loved one is something that only time will heal. I had the honor and pleasure of serving along side Kevin onboard the USS San Jacinto CG56. Dear Rashmi and Family,
I met Kevin a while back through a mutual friend from the Fox Valley Bike and Ski Club (FVBSC). We all shared a common interest in dancing at Cadillac Ranch, and I attended your wedding reception with my friend. My heart sank and my eyes welled up when I heard Kevin's name on the local news. It wasn't until the next day when my friend from FVBSC confirmed that I had heard correctly about Kevin, that I broke down into tears. Although I haven't seen you or Kevin since your wedding day, both of you have always been in my heart and my thoughts. Kevin was a wonderful person who always made us smile and laugh, and Cadillac Ranch won't be the same without his wild dancing! I am so sorry for your loss, but I'm grateful to have known Kevin and I'm grateful for the sacrifices you both have made for me, my family and friends, and my country. Kevin will never be forgotten.

Dear Mrs. Grieco and Children - My sons both serve in the U.S. Army. My youngest, Tyler, had the pleasure of getting to know your husband while he was training at Fort McCoy last summer. I know he looked up to him and was proud to have known him. I was heartbroken for you and your family when I heard the devastating news. My thoughts are prayers are with you now and always. I hope that in your grief you are able to find a way to tuck away your memories for this wonderful man and keep him in your hearts forever. Although I did not know your husband, I praise him for his many years of dedicated service to our country and am proud to know there are men like him willing to stand up for our freedom. May he rest in peace. God bless you all.
