Dear Sister Manning,
I was sad to hear of President Manning's passing. I'm not the first to express the great influence he was in my life. I'm honored to have served with the two of you in Iowa. I hope I can teach my children how to be great like he was! I last saw him in the AZ Temple several years back and he took me into his office to "interview" me. I knew that he cared about me as he did so many others.
My love to you and your family!
Sincerely,
Michelle (Sister Harmon) Anderson

I have not seen Robert since my mission and have thought about him often. He had very positive effects on my life. Tonight I felt inspired to try and track him down on the internet to share my gratitude and instead found the information of his passing. It was very heartbreaking to not be able to share these feelings in person. He was and is a great man.

Manning family,
I am heavy hearted to be adding this entry. I have deep feelings for President and Sister Manning. From the time I received my mission call and found out I was going to have a close friend's Grandfather (Jared Manning) as my Mission President to the times I would stop in his office in the Mesa Az temple to say hi. It was a great blessing to have him conduct the sealing of not just my wife and I but he also performed the sealing of my parnets to my adoptive brothers. I will forever cherish and remember the times I was in the presence of President Manning and his loving wife.

Dear Elinor & Family,
We were packing our bags for a trip to WA when we heard of Bob's passing. Sorry to miss the celebration of his life. Remember him from when we were kids in the 1st Ward. Always looked up to him in many ways. Our favorite memory is that he took Jimmie's Master M Men application right to church headquarters for us, because it was the last day to turn it in. We indeed love both of you & Chris, don't know your other family well. Hope friends, family & others will stay close at this time to remind you we will all be together some day. Love Jimmie & Barbara James

I find it difficult to express the extent to which knowing President Manning has blessed my life. He has been a great leader, teacher, example, and friend. I enjoyed so much the time we spent together in Iowa and have cherished the few times since when I have had the opportunity to visit in Phoenix and at the cabin in the mountains. What a great man! How thankful I am to have known him. Sister Manning, my thoughts and prayers are with you and with your family. I love you both and hold dear the fond memories of our time together.

Robert Manning was one of the finest men I have ever known. He was loved by everyone, especially his missionaries. I had the unique opportunity to travel with President Manning while on my mission. I will forever cherish talking with him and listening to his stories about the gospel and his love of flying. His permanent smile was contagious to all he met. I am so gratefull I was able to see him a few weeks ago and I look forward to seeing him again. A finer man the world has not known. Integrity, loyalty, love of all, happiness and spiritualiy were a few of his greatest attributes. My love and prayers go out to the Manning family.

Dear Manning Family,
Thank you for giving my daughter and I the opportunity to provide a special musical number at President Manning's Funeral. I wrote the song "In His Arms" with a friend of mine, only a couple of weeks ago, not knowing why we wrote it...but as we performed it today I realized why we had. Today was the first time we performed it. I hope it provided as much comfort hearing it as it did for me performing it.
President Manning was a big fan of my musical talent growing up. I remember the day he baptized me when I was 8 years old, wondering how much easier it would be to play the piano with hands as large as his.
What comfort, guidance, and love we have all felt from those hands over the years.
Thanks again for letting me play a tribute to such a wonderful, wonderful man. May our Father in Heaven continue to bless and watch over your family.
With Love,
Karl & Brad Owens

Dear Manning family,
There are simply too many good memories to try and pick just one. What we remember most was his unconditional love for us. He was an outstanding Bishop in the old Phoenix 18th ward. Those were special times for our family. We love you and send you our sympathies; and yet we rejoice in his wonderful life. At a time when the world is full of distractions that can easily lead us away from a "Christ-like" life, he stood as a shining example of what we can become, when we live the gospel. He touched our lives, and in doing so, helped us become better men. We will miss him greatly.

Dear Eleanor & Family: Gloria and I are deeply sorrowed by the passing of a dear friend, mentor, example, and servant of our Heavenly Father. We learned much from you and Bob through our association. In every respect, he is one of the finest men it has been my privilege to know. In my mind’s eye I see one of the most Christ-like men that ever touched my life; going about and “doing good.” We treasure our memories of our service together and the example you both set in serving others. May you know of our profound love for you and your family. May Heavenly Father comfort and bless you throughout this difficult time. Our hearts go out to you and you will be in our thoughts and prayers always. Sincerely, Elder Joseph P. & Sister Gloria Nichols, Texas San Antonio Mission

Such a special man in my life. I remember turkey BBQs with his family as a boy with my parents. He was a boys man who even trusted me, as a new teenager driver to take a solo spin in his brand new "hot" Mercury. One of my father's most favored friends. Someone I admired who left me with lasting good memories and who was a great example.

Dear Elinor and family, Just a note to let you know of our love for Bob. He was my co-pilot in Stake and Temple callings, and a finer councelor and partner could not be found in all of Christendom. His concern was always for the "people". I loved him like a brother, and would be honored to be his co-pilot, now. With his experience in celestial things, he will be able to help us all in adjusting to heavenly living. He is a great example and lived life like it should be. May peace and comfort be yours, for a special shield of sweet memories will keep you from being lonely. This blessing will be yours because the Savior promised it to the faithful. With love, Widtsoe and Diane Shumway.

Elinor & Family -
I was deeply grieved to learn of Bob's passing. He was such a fun loving, full of life man, who was loved and respected by all of us.
I will never forget the "dog fights" we had on our flights to and from Guymas with Dean, Beverly and the Grovers.
I am in Newport Beach and will not return in time to be at his services, but know that my thoughts and prayers will be with you as you celebrate his life.
I was privileged to call him friend and honored to be one of his brothers in the Priesthood. We all need a "pilot" in our lives. Bob certainly flew in an upward direction and will break through the clouds into everlasting life in perfect formation with the elite pilots of the Celestial Wing of Christ.
My best to all...
