Joan Sielaff Obituary

Joan R. Sielaff, 80 CARLSBAD --- Joan Sielaff, my beloved wife, our beloved mother, grandmother and sister passed on to eternal life after her courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, September 29, 2010. She was born Joan R. Ertl on August 30, 1930 in Appleton, Wisconsin, to Joseph and Mary Ellen Ertl. Joan was a caring, tender and selfless mother who devoted her entire life to her husband and family placing the love of family above all else. After 25 years of raising children, Joan spent the next 32 years in warm reflection on the memories we have made together in Florida and California enjoying the ocean and beaches she so loved. Joan is deeply loved and missed by all who were blessed by her heart and inspired by her courage and strength. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Donald J.; son, Robert; son, Thomas and daughter-in-law, Peggy; daughter, Mary and son-in-law, Robert; daughter, Kathleen; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers, Cletus and wife Eunice, Wilbur and wife Marion (deceased), and Donald and wife Dorothy; sister, Lois and husband Don; and many nieces and nephews.
Services are as followed: Thursday, November 4, 2010 - Mass 9:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 6628 Santa Isabel Street, Carlsbad, California, followed by an Interment ceremony that will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, California. "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal."

Grammy was one of the sweetest people in the entire world! She was the most loving and caring grandmother to me! She was always there for me from babysitting me when I was little to surprising me on my 16th Birthday!! She was always there for me!
I loved her so much!!

A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled,
A place is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled.
God in His wisdom has re-called,
The boon his love has given,
And though the body slumbers here,
The soul is safe in Heaven.

Losing a mother is awful. You still need her here to share all the family and life ups and downs. As time goes by the hurt will heal and be replaced by wonderful memories and smiles but right now it's hard. She lived a grand life full of her family, friends and sunshine. I wish you were all closer in miles but you are always in our thoughts. Would love to hear from you.

You can only have one mother patient, kind and true; no other friend in all the world, will be the same to you. When other friends forsake you, to mother you will return, for all her loving kindness, she asks nothing in return. As we look upon her picture, sweet memories we recall, of a face so full of sunshine, and a smile for one and all. Sweet Jesus, take this message, to our dear mother up above; tell her how we miss her, and give her all our love.
