John Brennan Obituary

BRENNAN--John Joseph, Sr., a longtime resident of Manhasset, NY, died suddenly September 18. He was 83. Eileen, his loving wife of 59 years, his sister, 10 children, their spouses, 24 grandchildren, two great-grandsons, a brother-in-law and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive him. He was born October 11, 1923, in New York City, third of William R. and Margaret Healy Brennans six children. Raised in Neponsit, he went to St. Francis de Sales, Brooklyn Prep, Holy Cross College and Fordham Law School. He joined the family business Brennan and Sloan, Inc., a concrete contracting firm. In his long career he worked on many New York City landmarks, including the UN, the Citicorp and McGraw Hill buildings, CBS headquarters and the Jacob Javits Convention Center. He was past-president of the Building Trades Employers Association. He married Eileen Fitzgerald on July 10, 1948. They moved to Manhasset in 1957, where they raised their 10 children. A parishioner of the Church of St. Mary in Manhasset, he was a member of the Society of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of the City of New York. He is survived by his wife, Eileen, of Manhasset; sister, Sr. Beatrice Brennan RSCJ, of Albany; daughters Eileen Ann Brennan of Kent, NY; Beatrice Wall (Robert) of Lloyd Harbor, NY and Virginia Waechter (Jim) of Nashville; and sons John Jr. (Joan) of Ardmore, PA; Edward (Julia) of Sea Cliff, NY, Michael (Lisa) of Manhasset, Stephen (Patricia) of Irvington, NY, Peter (Bernadette) of Bronxville NY, Thomas of Philadelphia and William (Margaret) of Waterloo, Belgium and Yorktown Heights, NY; brother-in-law Michael F. Armstrong, of New York; grandchildren, Nell (Ted) Timmer, Mary and Kate Ogorzaly; Claire, John, Nora, Ned, Billy, Michael, Lauren, Carrie, Jack, Fiona, Anna Rose, Eliza, Molly, Elizabeth, Kevin, Catherine and James Brennan, and Robert, Kevin, Patrick and Jack Wall, and great-grandsons Henry and Jasper Timmer. Visiting at Fairchild Sons Inc. of Manhasset Thursday and Friday 2-4pm and 7-9pm Funeral Mass Saturday 10am at St. Marys Church in Manhasset.
