Houston "Huey" Thomas STAUNTON

Houston "Huey" Thomas, 80, of North New Street, departed this life on Tuesday, August 26, 2008, at Augusta Medical Center, in Fishersville, Virginia.

He was born October 6, 1927, in Augusta County, Virginia, a son of the late King and Estelle (Thompson) Thomas.

He was a member of Augusta Street United Methodist Church.

He retired from the former Basic Witz Furniture Company and served in the United States Navy.

Houston was a member of the Staunton AARP Chapter #1650 and Club 14.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 11 siblings.

Houston is survived by his wife, Hattie (Barney) P. Thomas of the residence; a sister, Katherine Veney, of Youngstown, Ohio; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Public viewing will be from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, August 28, 2008, at the Kenneth L. Jones Funeral Home.

A service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, August 29, 2008, at Augusta Street United Methodist Church by the Reverend Lucy Hughes. Interment will be at Thornrose Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.

Professional services provided by the Kenneth L. Jones Funeral Home.
