John Harvey Perdue STUARTS DRAFT

John Harvey Perdue, 87, a resident of Stuarts Draft, went to be with the Lord on Monday morning, September 8, 2008.

A son of the late Oakley Homer and Mamie Mann Perdue, he was born on December 9, 1920, in Forest Hill, West Virginia, and graduated from American College, Pennsylvania (Perdue Campus).

Mr. Perdue was an agent for Life Insurance of Virginia prior to his retirement in 1983 when he moved to Stuarts Draft. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Staunton, the Masons, Scottish Rite, Shriners and was a Rotarian. He was an avid golfer.

On January 31, 1942, he married the former Rose Ballew who survives him. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, and their spouses, Nancy Whitlow and Frank of Collinsville, Virginia; Carol Fuchs and Wayne of Idaho; and Teresa Beard and Sam of Stuarts Draft; and three sons, and their spouses, John Perdue Jr. and Sandy of Verona; James Perdue and Joan of Staunton; and Dean Perdue and Anne of Mint Springs. He also leaves 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mildred P. Bell of Troy, North Carolina; Louise P. Lamonds of Biscoe, North Carolina; and Ruth P. Goodman of Poquoson, Virginia; and one half-brother, Jerry Foster of Forest Hill, West Virginia.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Perdue; a brother, Joseph D. Perdue; and a grandson, Wade Corey Brown.

His body will be cremated at the Lindsey Cremation Chapel in Harrisonburg.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, September 11, 2008, at Memorial Baptist Church in Staunton with the Reverend Temple Myers officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Stuarts Draft Rescue Squad or Fire Department, Preston Yancey Fire Department in Fishersville, or the Building Fund of Memorial Baptist Church, 224 Taylor Street, Staunton, VA 24401.
