Wendell Oliver Armentrout HARRISONBURG

Wendell Oliver Armentrout, 78, a resident of Harrisonburg, died unexpectedly at 1:45 Tuesday morning, September. 30, 2008, at the Martinsburg VA Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia.

A son of the late Thomas A. and Viola Cave Armentrout, he was born on October 17, 1929, in Rockingham County and lived the majority of his life in the Keezletown area.

Mr. Armentrout loved his county and was proud to serve in the Army during World War II where he was disabled. He was a member of VFW Post # 9292 in Elkton and the American Legion, and Westside Baptist Church in Waynesboro. He enjoyed making others happy.

On October 17, 1962 he married the former Ruby Fitzgerald, who survives him.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Scottie Armentrout of Dayton and Merle Armentrout of Petersburg, Virginia; one daughter, Desiree Wall of Petersburg; three grand-children, Sindy Armentrout, Christopher M. Armentrout and Michael Armentrout; and one great-granddaughter, Destiny Armentrout. He also leaves three sisters, Ruby Shaver of Mt. Clinton, Phoebe Blake of Warrenton and Dollie Urbenor of Winchester; two brothers, David H. and Raymond D. Armentrout, both of Columbus, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sons, David and Michael Armentrout.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Thursday, October 2, 2008, at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2008, from the Chapel of the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home with the Reverend Randy Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Westside Baptist Church, 45 Turk Mountain Lane, Waynesboro, VA 22980.
