John Corwith Obituary


CORWITH - John D., "Jack", age 87, of Venice , FL , died on July 11, 2008. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 12, 1920, and came to the Venice area 19 years ago from Miami, FL. Mr. Corwith was also a summer resident of Grantham, NH. He served in the Navy during World War II and saw action in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. He was a graduate of Dartmouth College, class of 1942. He remained active in the Dartmouth Alumni Association, and was President of his alumni class for its 50th reunion. Mr. Corwith worked as manager of employee relations for Exxon for 35 years in Venezuela, New Jersey and Miami and traveled extensively in Central and South America. He was a member of the Exxon Annuitants Club, enjoyed golfing, and was active in the Plantation Foundation. He will also be remembered as a devoted family man. Surviving family members include his wife of 62 years, Millie, of Venice; son Alan and wife Patricia of Babson Park, FL; daughter Anne Joy and husband John of Cape Coral, FL; three grandchildren, Ashley, Amanda, and Patrick; one great-grandson, Trace; three step grandchildren, Lisa, John, and Jeff; four step great-grandchildren, Kirsten, TJ, Ian, and Virginia; sister Joyce Corwith Gannon of Northport, NY; and nieces Patty O'Brien of Huntington, NY, and Nancy Kretzer of Northport, NY. A memorial service will be held at the St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Venice on Tuesday, July 15th at 10 AM. Farley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
