Dear Kathy, Mallory, and Cassidy, I was shocked and saddened to hear about your loss. There are no words that can express the fun we had as teammates and friends through the years. I know you have many more memories that will keep him with you for many more years to come. My thoughts are with you in this difficult time.

Gerard truly had a warm, open heart. I worked with Gerard from time to time over the last several years where I learned about his gift for interacting with people. I am very sorry to hear of the loss in the Powers family; however, I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to know Gerard.

I was at the Mass this morning, and the Hail Mary now has new meaning for me! Thank you Maureen for sharing that with me. All our memories of Wellfleet Road are just so wonderful, but the best was at night when the parents were home and out and ALL the kids played together. There was no age difference, just alot of laughter! I'll cherish those memories till I join Gerard in Heaven and can share them again with him, and see that Powers smile! God bless you all!
Love, Theresa Rieder

To the Powers family,
I was a childhood friend of Gerard and learned how to play 'war' from him, but he had to agree to play 'house' with me! He was my first little boyfriend and I will never forget him or the memories of growing up knowing the Powers family of Wellfleet Road. My deepest sympathies to all of you.

Gerard and I worked together at ACS. He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor.

It has probably been about thirty years since I have seen Gerard but it still hurts so much to hear of his death. I was one of the little kids on the block so there were a lot of people to look up to (and even be afraid of). Gerard was far and away the coolest big kid on the block and in all of East Rockaway. As big, and strong, and cool as he was, there was never anything to fear in him. Before I knew what the word meant, he was a gentleman!
I am amazed at how many Gerard Powers memories have come to the surface of my heart in the past few days.
There is a heaven. Gerard is there. Remembering his smile has brought me closer to there!

To the entire Powers family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you. I was shocked to hear the news and immediate images of Gerard began flasing through my mind. I will always remember him as a 'gentle giant'. He was a couple of years older so he seemed larger than life to me. You always had a smile and a hello and I have fond memories of all the "Wellfleet Road and neighborhood kids playing hide and seek or I declare war! I'll never forget summer nights running through the hose or riding bikes behind the bug spray truck.
I am sorry for your loss and will continue to pray for all of you and ask Gerard to watch over you. Love Chrissy Rieder Mchale

To the Powers Family,
I'm sure I spent more time in the Powers' backyard than my own as a child growing up on Wellfleet Road in East Rockaway. I will always remember Gerard as not just a friend, but a role model and a true big brother. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

To the Powers family --
Our deepest sympathies. While the years and miles may keep us out of touch, growing up knowing and respecting such a special person like Gerry leaves lasting memories that are truly a comfort during this difficult time.

I will miss that big smile and will always remember our times together. Our thoughts and prayers are with you guys and the family. Love, George, Sylvia, Ali and Mike.

I knew Gerry for one summer back in the late seventies as a lifeguard working at Hewlett. He was an old man then (which meant that he was probably in his twenties). We had given him the nickname "Bert" because he looked like Bert Reynolds.
I've always remembered Gerry for being even keeled, kind and fun loving. He was great to be around and I know he'll be missed by all who knew him.

Kathy:
the power of the internet has allowed many of us former ACS employees to connect - it is so sad that it is this news which has made its way to us. Beth and I are thinking of you and the girls. We have the best memories of our time in San Ramon... you guys were terrific friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
