Robert Waldinger Obituary

WALDINGER - Robert, graduated from St. Johns School of Pharmacy and opened Midway Drugs in Westbury, New York in 1974. He was a mentor, friend and pillar in the community and will be greatly missed. Robert or Bob as he was referred to was survived by his Former wife Judy, Children, Melissa Waldinger Bosonac, Debra Waldinger, David Waldinger, Current Wife, Gloria, Step Children, Alan Berner, Vicki Berner and Grand Children, Hunter Bosonac and Matthew Berner. He was always there to help people and never wanted anything back in return. If we all conducted ourselves as "Bob" did the world would be a better place. No one will ever drive by Midway Drugs who was a customer and not think of Bob. There will not be a day that he will not be missed by his family, friends, customers or the community. A Memorial in his Honor is being held at the Community Reform Temple, 712 The Plain Road, Westbury, New York at 5pm on Sunday, October 12, 2008.

Bob it's been many years since you passed. I still think of you often and you will always hold a place in our families hearts for being there when my wife was ill.

When Bob first opened Midway Drugs I became a customer. In a short time he became a friend . I cannot express how badly I felt upon learning of his passing. Although I no longer live in Westbury I felt Bob was only a phone call away. Last October I went back East and stopped at Midway. Bob saw me and was so happy. He will truly be missed . Carol Fichter

We are so sorry for your loss. We were Midway customers for a long time before retiring and moving to Florida in 2005. We missed the personal touch and concern he gave his customers. When we first started going to Midway, I was having trouble finding a certain generic medicine . My husband was allergic to some of the fillers in the generics. He went out of his way to get it for us even though it was not one that he stocked.
Our deepest sympathy to all.

So much was said at tonight's memorial service, and yet I have the feeling that they hardly touched the surface when it comes to tributes to this wonderful, unassuming, caring man. Our thoughts and prayers are with Gloria, Krissy, and all of Bob's family.

About 2 years ago, I had the honor of being introduced to Bob Waldinger and his Wife Gloria. We were all attending a Wedding of Dear Friends in Italy. During this time I got to know Bob he made me feel like I had known him a lifetime. What caught my attention about Bob was how interesting he was in conversation. Whatever the topic he gave his input as if he were telling a story. Love of friendship was truly felt by him. I am glad I had the opportunity to be in his company together with his ever Loving Wife Gloria. My sympathy and prayers are with Gloria and his family.

Dear Mrs. Waldinger & Family:

We were shocked to hear of Bob's passing. For the last 10 years we have been customers at Midway Drugs and Bob would always go out of his way to help us whenever we needed help with our Rx's.

He will be truly missed. Our prayers and condolences to all.

With our deepest sympathy.

Our sincere condolences to the entire family.

"Bobby" was our neighbor and friend on Knollwood. We'd hang out at the lamp-post most evenings, before and after dinner. Bob eventually bought our father's beloved green '56 Ford station wagon... souped-up as it was... and it probably got even more loving care from Bob after that.

As the "wittiest" and "most talkative" of the class of 1963, he was certainly entertaining as well as an all-around nice guy!

He will be missed in our hearts, but fond memories will remain. We hope that his family and friends are able to share those comforting memories as well.

With sympathy and prayers,

When I went to Midway to pick up my prescriptions tonight, I was absolutely shocked and stunned to learn of Bob's passing.

My family and I have been customers of Midway and Bob since he opened the pharmacy all those years ago. I will always remember the special way he treated everyone. I particularly remember when I was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma 22 years ago, how he handled ordering all of the various drugs I needed.

Even though I moved from the immediate neighborhood 6 years ago, I would never consider filling my prescriptions anywhere else. Our community has truly lost someone special.

My condolences to Bob's family, his children and grandchildren, and particularly to Krissy and Nick.

I am quite shocked to hear of the passing of Bob. Spoke to him on the phone not long ago not knowing he was sick. Our class is having our 45th reunion and he will be greatly missed as he was loved by everyone.
God bless you Bob and may you rest in peace

Dear Waldinger Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Although I did not personally know your husband, your father, your grandfather, your friend from reading the tributes I can safely say this world has lost an incredibly special person. I hope you find comfort in all of your memories and these personal tributes.
Thinking of you all,

To the Waldinger/Berner family,

Please accept my most heartfelt condolences on Bob's passing. I remember Bob from the time I was little-in fact, my mom told me that he ordered her first case of formula for my little sister, as it was a formula not stocked in the stores (this was 1973-1974!!). Bob always took the time to ask how you were, how your family was, etc. He represented what is now a rarity-a trusted neighborhood pharmacist. I am sure he will be sorely missed by the family, and the community he served so well for over 30 years.

What can you really say about the greatest man i have ever known. As his step-son, it was an honor to be able to call Bob , Dad ! He made everyone around him happy, and he had the worlds greatest smile. He loved his job, his wife and family, and friends. You can judge a man by the company he keeps, and all of his freinds were incredible people. He was a great Grandfather to my son Matthew, and watching those two together just made you smile. I miss him dearly, and will miss him every day that i live. He has taught me so many things, and has made me a better person. The love that he and my Mother had was magical. It was beautiful to watch the two of them together. I love you Dad, and miss you with all my heart.

As someone who spoke with Bob frequently I just want his family to know it was always a pleasure to hear his voice on the other end of the phone. He always gave you instant recognition and a smile on your face. He treated his customers with that same respect, remembering their names and making them feel special. He will be greatly missed and it was my good fortune to have known him.. i will keep you all in my prayers.
Sincerely,Rita from Salisbury Medical

Robert Waldinger was one of those special individuals who, unfortunately, passes through this world all too infrequently. His passing is not only a great personal loss to us, but also to the community he served as a pharmacist for nearly 35 years. His knowledge, kindness, and legendary generosity will leave a large void in the many lives that he touched during his life. He will be greatly missed by family, friends, colleagues, and the numerous patients who could always depend on the always dependable Bob.
