JACKMAN - Winthrop True, III, long-time resident of Bethpage, Long Island, NY, died Saturday morning, October 18, after a long struggle with an illness. "Win", as everyone knew him, was born in Barre in 1932 to Lawrence M. and Marguerite Jackman, and raised in his beloved East Corinth. Win graduated from Bradford Academy, where he played basketball and attended the University of Vermont, where he majored in business. He was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. He served two years in the Navy at the Pautuxet Naval Station, where he was a sailor first class. He began his working career as a salesman for National Cash Register and later worked in the textile industry for many years at J.P. Stevens and at Malden Mills, both in New York City. He was married for many years to Claire Quinlan of Barre. He is survived by his sister, Jane Fehrs; his five children and eight grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the East Corinth New Cemetery, East Corinth, VT, Saturday, November 1 at 11am. Gifts in his name can be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness North Shore, Glen Cove, NY, and to the Claire Jackman Memorial Scholarship Fund at the BOCES Art School in Syosset, NY. Condolences to Jane and family and healing wishes to Wimp and Claire's family. I was the flower girl at their wedding and had many great memories with Jack & Grete at their camp on Lake Morey.

The Tom Boyce family, from Barre, VT, extends our deepest sympathies to the family of Winthrop True Jackman. Linda has weekend duty at the Cardio Care Unit (CCU) at Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, tomorrow. We did not know of Winthrop's death until tonight, at 12:55 AM after returning from work, thus, we will be unable to attend his service. However, his family and his sister, Jane, remain in our thoughts and prayers. May God Bless. - Tom Boyce of Barre, VT

Wimp was a good friend, Kappa Sigma fraternity brother and we worked together at NCR in NYC. He had the gift of real Vermont humor, subtle' but to the point. I hadn't seen Wimp since I left NYC, but my good memories remain of a true Vermonter and friend.
