Quinn, 92, formerly of Main Street, Colrain, passed away, surrounded by her family, on Thursday night, July 17, 2008, at the Sweet Brook Transitional Care and Living Center, where she had resided since February 2006. In 1937 she received her three-year diploma as an elementary school teacher and her bachelor of science in education degree in 1964, both from Fitchburg State Teachers College. Mrs. Quinn taught all eight grades for three years in Guilford, Vt., rural schools, and fifth grade for one year in Brattleboro, Vt. She taught for 24 years in Colrain, beginning in 1949. She will be remembered by many for her delicious homemade meals and desserts, especially her frosted cinnamon rolls! In her later years, it brought her great comfort from the many friendships she developed through the Colrain Community Church, the Women's Bible Class and the Shelburne Falls Senior Center. Dorothy was a member of the Massachusetts Retired Teachers' Association, Colrain Community Church, Colrain Historical Society and from 1989 to 2001 was secretary/treasurer of the West Leyden Cemetery Association. Her favorite pastimes included gardening, cooking, camping, traveling, letter writing, crossword puzzles and bowling. Lou Ann and family,
We love and will all miss Dorothy. She was a part of our "family" at Sweetbrook. Nothing brought her greater pleasure than talking about her family. I hope you can take some comfort in knowing how much she loved and cherished you all. I'm sure she is up in heaven doing a crossword puzzle. But she will always be in your hearts, and will always watch over you. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

LouAnn and Max-

There are no easy words to soften your loss. Dorothy was a witty, intelligent and caring person. I have a picture of her in my mind of sitting at the cold saturday morning soccer games to watch Max play, wrapped in a blanket, while wearing her pearls.
It's so difficult to be part of the so-called "sandwich generation", caught between raising children and caring for elderly parents. You did it beautifully. She was loved.
Austin and all of us are thinking of you all and wishing you peace and strength,
Tracey Gregory

You should be very proud of the way you cared for your Mom. She was not only surrounded by family the night she died, but every day prior to that.
She was so proud of her girls and their accomplishments. Dorothy was greatful for her grandchildren, and the many years of joy they gave her.
As I sat here this morning reading her obituary, I remembered the many conversations we had together. She would often speak of her days as a teacher, and how she worked her way through college. She was also proud to have the privelege of teaching three of her daughters. Teaching was her passion.
Your Mom was there for all her children. She helped out in so many ways, whenever she could. She was a very kind and generous women.
The times I cherish most with Dorothy, were her interactions with Max. She so loved him, and wanted to be around him whenever she could. I remember the pain she would go through climbing the armory stairs, just to watch him play basketball. The cold fall days sitting at DeSanty field wrapped in blankets, just to watch his soccer game. Her favorite sport was baseball. She had her own fan club there, all the children would greet her and keep her up to date on the game. The funniest and most embaressing times were the food fights at local resturants. She would do anything she could to get his attention. Dorothy, you left such a footprint on Max's heart.
I know there's nothing we can do to ease the pain you are feeling now, but reach for those memories that keep her alive in your heart.
Your Mom is at peace now, she is surrounded by all the people that went before her. I can see her now bragging about her family, and talking about all the good times. God bless you Dorothy, rest and have fun.
Love
Donna
