Jane Grainger 1909 - 2008 WILLIAMSTOWN Jane Rockwell Sumner Grainger, 99, of Sweetwood Retirement Community, died Oct. 19, at the North Adams Regional Hospital. Jane was born in Rockville, Conn., on Sept. 6, 1909, daughter of Sherman Peterson Sumner and Ida Howard Sumner. She was the beloved wife of the late William Saville Grainger and the late Benton Mellinger. She lived for 40 years in Rocky Hill, Conn., 10 years in Readsboro, Vt. and 21 years at the Sweetwood Retirement Community in Williamstown. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Williamstown. She leaves three daughters and sons-in-law; Janet and Charles Kepner, of Groton, Conn., formerly of Avon, Conn., Judith & Horace Wuerdemann of Venice, Fla., formerly of Oakton, Va., Georgia and Milton Estrella of Houston, Texas, three granddaughters, Erika McGrath, and her husband, Jim, of Fairfax,Va., Heather Douglass, and her husband, Rob, of Palm Harbor,Fla. Beckett Gilchrist of Austin, Texas, and John McCahill of Canton,Conn., the widower of her granddaughter Kimberly, two Grandsons, William Baker III, and Brooks Wuerdemann, and his wife, Stephanie, seven Great-grandchildren, Christopher, Benjamin and Rebecca Joy McCahill, Kyle and Erin McGarth, Amanda and Bradley Douglass, and Clark and Anna Gilchrist. She was predecesased by two brothers, Howard and Peter Sumner, and her sister, Mildred Sumner Schlaf, who died at the age of 101 years and two granddaughters, Kristin Ann Kepner and Kimberly Jean Kepner McCahill.
