My name is John Claughsey. I was a GMG 3rd on the Rich from 63-64. I was sad to see another shipmate passed. Even though I didn't serve with Ray, I send my condolences to his family, and friends. God bless you all.

Uncle Ray was the best! One of the printable things he would tell me was, "...boy, I'll punch you between your running lights!" Guess you can take the sailor out of the Navy, but you can't take the Navy out of the sailor.

I served aboard the Rich with Chief Parsons 1968-1970.The Rich was my best duty station and I am sure it was one of Ray's. A great band of brothers. "Old sailors one day sail to a safer shore".

I served with Chief Parsons the entire time he was on the Rich. The Westpac cruise was my first long term deployment with him being the chief-in-charge. I made E4 at the beginning of the cruise and was taught a lot by Ray Parsons. I'm glad I was able to see and talk with him at a few reunions. God bless his memory and his surviving family.

My deepest sympathy for your loss. I was a member of the crew of the USS Rich from 1961-63 and didn't have the honor of knowing the Chief but we were all brothers aboard the Rich.
May God comfort the family in this time of loss
