Emma Broadfoot Obituary

Emma Marie Slate Broadfoot, 87, a resident of Waynesboro, Va., and formerly of Petersburg, Va., died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville, Va.

She was born Feb. 1, 1921, in Dinwiddie County, Va., a daughter of John Creath Slate and Ida Belle Humphries Slate.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander James Broadfoot Sr., who she married on Oct. 2, 1945, at Fort Lee, Va.; three brothers, Hollis Glen Slate, Linwood Creath Slate and Leslie Thomas Slate; and two sisters, Thelma Love Parrish and Elsie Mae Grange.

Survivors include three sons, Alexander James Broadfoot Jr. of Honolulu, Philip Alan Broadfoot and wife, Wendy, of Danville, Va., and Timothy Erskine Broadfoot of Binghamton, N.Y.; her daughter, Sharon Kay Rexrode and husband, David, of Waynesboro, Va.; eight grandchildren, David Alexander Rexrode and his wife, Kathryn, Amy Rexrode Weber and her husban,d Willis, Benjamin Alan Rexrode, Ian Andrew Broadfoot, Zachary Ryan Broadfoot, Tyler James Broadfoot, Caroline Banton Broadfoot and Douglas Slate Broadfoot; her great-granddaughter, Emma Anne Rexrode; her sister, Gladys Louise Fowler; two nieces; and one nephew.

She was a graduate of Petersburg High School. Mrs. Broadfoot was a full-time wife and mother, a member of Waynesboro Bible Chapel, and a faithful Christian who had read the Bible from beginning to end four times.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at McDow Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be private.

Active pallbearers will be her grandsons, David, Benjamin, Ian, Zachary, Tyler and Douglas.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Waynesboro Bible Chapel, P.O. Box 456, Waynesboro, VA 22980.
