Sally Carter Obituary

Sally Jean Prann Carter, 58, Fort Smith, Ark., died Sept. 11, 2008, in Fort Smith.

Born Jan. 24, 1950, in Reading, she was a daughter of Robert and Jean Prann, Venice, Fla.

She graduated from Exeter High School and Allentown Hospital School of Nursing, Allentown.

After working several years as a nurse, she devoted herself to creating a loving home for her husband and three children.

Later, she returned to nursing after earning her advanced certification as a certified rehabilitation registered nurse (CRRN), and worked in that specialized field most recently at Healthsouth Rehabilitation Hospital, Fort Smith.

She was a member of Society of Decorative Painters and Association of Rehabilitation Nurses.

Sally married the Rev. Dr. Thomas S. Carter on May 29, 1971, in Reading. In 37 years of marriage, they traveled the world together raising three wonderful children while he served as a Presbyterian clergyman and as a chaplain in the United States Air Force.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Raymond W. Prann II and Robert F. Prann Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas S. Carter; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. Prann; sister, Susan Prann Scornavacchi; brothers, Richard S. Prann and Ronald W. Prann; her children: Charles H. Carter III, Peter T. Carter and Laura J. Crawford; and grandchildren, Benjamin Thomas Carter and Jacob Henry Carter.

She loved swimming, decorative painting, crafts and sewing. She will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, a compassionate and highly skilled nurse and a creative and gifted artist.

A memorial service will be Monday at 3 p.m. in First Presbyterian Church, Little Rock, Ark. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home, Fort Smith.
