Salvatore Citriniti Obituary

Published by Times Herald-Record from Jul. 16 to Jul. 18, 2008.
Middletown, NY

Salvatore Citriniti, a longtime resident of Middletown, having retired from Kieley and Muller Co. after 17 years and the Middletown School District after 14 years, died Monday, July 14, 2008 at home surrounded by many who loved him. He was 69.

The son of the late Domenico and Rosina Citriniti, he was born on October 13, 1938 in Pentone, Italy.

Salvatore was a dedicated family man who wanted nothing more than to see his sons become accomplished men. He came to the states as a young man and while he was always proud of his family, his heritage and where he had come from, he was equally proud to become an American and strived to make a better life for himself and his family. There was always food on the table, a roof over their heads and most importantly, much love. As anyone who knew him can attest, there was also always much laughter, and he was oftentimes the center of the family's comedic attention.

He encouraged his sons to learn from his efforts, and coupled with the comparable work ethic of his wife, their children know the value of job well done and a life well lived. It is because of their love and the family values taught that right up until the very end, his boys were there at his side, taking care of him as well as any nurse would have, and it is also the reason why they will make him proud of the way they will take care of their mom in his place. Sal was not only there for his immediate family, but for anyone who needed a hand, whether it was help fixing something, advice or a story told to make one laugh - he did it, while expecting nothing in return. A kid at heart, he was always surrounded by the younger generations of the family, and the group of them could always be located by the laughter he caused. Although everyone who loves him is heartbroken, they are the ones who will miss him most of all.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Giovanna Citriniti, at home; his sons: Dominic Citriniti and his wife, Stephanie of Middletown, Saverio Citriniti, and Salvatore Citriniti, Jr., both of New Jersey. He also survived by his brother, Vincent Citriniti and his wife, Mary of Port Jervis, Frank Citriniti and his wife, Lina of the state of Florida, and Michael Citriniti and his wife, Maria of Middletown, as well as his grandchildren, Adriana and Dominic, Jr., and 16 nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Vincent Citriniti, at home in Italy.

Visitation hours were held Thurday, July 17, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, Inc., 72 W. Main St., Middletown, NY.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. today, Friday, July 18, at St. Joseph R.C. Church in Middletown. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Arrangements by Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, Inc.; 845-343-6023.

Salvatore Always had a joke or two to share. He was a real people person. He loved music, cars, computers, machines and electronics. He enjoyed growing fruits and vegetable fishing and eating fine italian meals with the exception Chicken. He had a big heart he is very much missed. He was like a fun father figure to me. I will never forget him.

I remember Sal from when he worked at Twin Towers Middle School. He reminded me of my own grandfather, who also was born in Italy, retired from his first job and then was a custodian at Twin Towers (then Middletown High School). Sal was so funny and kind, always willing to help in any way he could, and with a smile and a joke to go along with it. His family is in my prayers.

I met Sal only once, in his hospital room, and although he was in tremendous pain, he still managed to make me laugh. I wish I had the chance to know him better, but I will always remember him for his good spirit in the most dire of situations. My condolances.
