Monticello, NY

Leslie "Les" Joel Sharoff, real estate developer and private investigator and a lifelong resident of Monticello, NY, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 16, 2008. He was 66 years old.

Leslie was born in Monticello, NY on June 2, 1942 to the late Lillian and Jacob Sharoff.

He was a member of the Associated Licensed Detectives of New York and of the American Polygraph Association.

Leslie is survived by his wife whom he loved and cherished above all others, Pamela Gilbert Sharoff; his loving and devoted brother, Steven and wife, Nancy and niece, Morgan; his mother-in-law, Anne Gilbert, his sister-in-law, Melody Taschmann, and her two sons, Chance and Win, his Aunt Roz, as well as, many cousins.

Dear Steven,
...I can't fathom the depth of your loss!
...I will always regret that I didn't meet with you & Leslie when I was last in Monticello in 1998.
...I'm writing a book that chronicles meetings with remarkable people - decade by decade. In the '60s I describe going into Watts in L.A. with Leslie after the riots, with cameras hanging around his neck so he could document the first "Black & White Love-In."
...As he was my brother-in-law at the time, we spent a great deal of time together. He took me for wild rides on his motorcycle & provided all the instruction for me to make a metal sculpture.
...I learned many things from him about how the world worked and didn't.
...Sending you & yours all the healing spirits!

I am so saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Les. I know how close both my late father and Les were, both during childhood and throughout their entire lives. It makes one wonder why those so good in this world are taken so soon. I believe that they have a higher purpose in life and have transitioned to the next level. I am learning more and more every day to celebrate the life and not the passing of loved ones is what is truly important and helps the days to pass with a smile on my face…….

Dear Pam, Steve, Nancy, and Morgan

I was completely shocked and in a state of disbelief when I found out what had happened to such a larger than life, and immortal person. I have spent a great deal of time talking with my parents, Jason, and Lauren, sharing and explaining fond memories of growing up making trips to Monticello and Les being such an integral part of those visits. Although we have not seen each other quite as much in the past couple of years, I will never forget his unmistakable sense of humor, wild hobbies, and knowledge about a huge variety of subjects. He was, without a doubt, an extremely generous, good hearted human being who really took care of those he loved. He will never be forgotten and will be missed so much by so many.

Dear
Pam,
You probably will not remeber me, , but my parents and I came to your

hang out with you and your sister. I just wanted to say that even

To the family of Les:
I was Les's classified advertising rep at the Times Herald Record up until I left there last November. I just wanted to share that we collaborated via phone- in the pursuit of real estate sales deals and had a great many laughs! We also had some wonderful conversations about our mutual love of Sedona, AZ (where I went on my honeymoon) last year. Please accept my condolences to his wife and family.

To The Sharoff Family,

We are shocked and so very sad to learn of Les's passing. He certainly was a wonderful, kind hearted, and yes...most vibrant individual. His passion for the things he truly believed in and loved were always evident in all he did. He will be sadly missed, but never forgotten. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Warm Summer Sun

Warm summer sun,
Shine kindly here,
Warm southern wind,
Blow softly here.
Green sod above,
Lie light, lie light.
Good night, dear heart,
Good night, good night.

My sincere condolences to Leslie's family whom I did not know and to Steven who always has a smile for you and of course in loving memory of Leslie. He was and is one of a kind who would not want you to be sad because he lived his life to the fullest. Leslie is now probably either trying to track down G-d or getting him to by some property.

He will be missed by all who knew him....

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.
