Martin Anthony Voelker

Martin Anthony Voelker of Middletown, died suddenly as the result of an auto accident on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. He was 77.

The son of the late Valentine and Mary Bork Voelker, he was born on May 14, 1931 in Queens, NY. He worked for many years as a sales representative for the 3M Corporation and later as an independent construction equipment salesman.

A family statement reads, "Marty will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, his interest in politics and the Giants, his avid reading and most of all his love for his grandchildren."

Besides his wife, Galena at home, Marty is survived by his children, Martin and his wife, Jenny of London, England; Susan Smith and her husband, Jeff of Neighborville, Ill. Christine Porto and her husband, D.W. of Middletown, Marybeth Cappadora and her husband, Jim of Pine Bush, and Elfriede Buckner and her husband, Mike of Pine Bush. He is also survived by one brother, Robert of Queens; two sisters, Edith Piazza and her husband, Sal of Tinton Falls, NJ and Louise Kinney and her husband, Gray of Hilton Head, SC; two stepsons, Sergei Lovov and Billy Peterman, former wife and friend, Elfriede and 13 grandchildren, Caitlyn and Joseph Porto, Julianne and James Cappadora, Emily, Kelby and Michelle Buckner, Tim, Gavin, Trevor and Meagan Lynch and Tommy and Brooke Voelker. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary, in 1965 and one brother, Valentine Voelker.

Visitation hours are from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY 10940.

A Funeral Service of Remembrance will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
