William Manley Obituary

Hurley, NY

William H. "Bill" Manley, Sr., 78, of Russell Road Hurley, NY, died Sunday, July 27, 2008 at the Benedictine Hospital in Kingston.

He was born in Troy, NY on April 6, 1930 to the late Harold Weeks Manley and Catherine Noonan Manley.

He was employed by IBM Kingston for over 30 years and retired in 1991. Bill was a life member of the Hurley Fire Company, the Hurley Rescue Squad and the Hurley VFW Post 5086. He was an Air Force Korean War Veteran and in 1992 was named Fireman of the Year in 1992 by the Ulster County Volunteer Fireman's Association. He was an avid light-sport aviation enthusiast.

He was the beloved husband for 55 years of Patricia Blanchard Manley and much loved father of Katherine Lawrence of Hurley, NY, Margaret Wolf and her husband, Joe of New Windsor, NY and William "Bill" Manley, Jr. and his wife, Kathy of Hurley, NY. Brother of M. Joyce Manley of Troy, M. Janet Martone and her husband, Mike also of Troy, NY, Katherine Gulley and her husband, Joe of Albany and John Manley and his wife, Maryann of East Falmouth, MA. Grandfather of Amy Lawrence of Canastota, NY, Brandon Wolf of New Windsor, NY and Kelly Manley of Hurley, NY. His grandchildren were the center of their very special "Poppa's" world. Many nieces and nephews also survive their Uncle Bill. His extended family includes many wonderful friends in the Hurley and Crooked Lake area.

A funeral procession will form at 9 a.m. on Friday at the Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home, Inc., 27 Smith Avenue Kingston, NY. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. at the Hurley Reformed Church, Hurley, NY with the Rev. Charles Stickley officiating. Burial will be in Hurley Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Since his life was one of love and service to his country, community and especially his family, donations to the Hurley Fire Department or the Hurley Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 181 Hurley, NY 12443. are requested in lieu of flowers.
