William Carlstrom Obituary

Town of Newburgh, NY

William D. Carlstrom, of the Town of Newburgh, entered into rest on Friday, September 5, 2008 at home. He was 85.

Son of the late Charles W. and Helen McNulty Carlstrom, he was born February 2, 1923 in Newburgh. He married Jean L. Engels Carlstrom on June 29, 1947 in St. Patrick's Church, Newburgh. Jean predeceased him in 2001.

William proudly served in the U.S. Army during WW II in Europe, and took part in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. During his service, he received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of Teamsters Local 445 and an honorary member of the Orange Lake Fish and Game Club.

Survivors include his loving children, Linda Spampinato and her husband, Frank of Lebanon, OH, Diane Altstadt and her husband, Ewald of Toms River, NJ, Paula Sayre and her husband, Mike of Wallkill, William P. Carlstrom and his wife, Kimberli of Newburgh; his brother, John (Jack) Carlstrom; his sister, Eileen Conover; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, James, Walter, Frances and William, and four sisters, Helen, Hilda, Marion and Eleanor.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, September 8, at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 9, in the funeral home with Monsignor John Budwick officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh.

Bill, Kim, Alli and family,

Dad was a real stand up guy. Although I didn't know him as well as some others, I knew him to be a good man who stood by his family and enjoyed the good things life and family had to offer.

During this sad time I pray for healing for you all.... May the Creator be with you now and always. I know that one day we'll all be fishin' together again!
