Eileen Stamile Obituary

Monroe, NY

Eileen Stamile, a housewife and 15 year area resident, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at her home. She was 86.

The daughter of the late John Knowles and Ethel Brown Knowles, she was born on August 31, 1922 in London, England. She was the widow of Francis Stamile.

She was a Sunday School teacher at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Brooklyn, a member of Cosmopolitan Associates, Inc. Brooklyn Chapter, and a member of the Monroe Jolly Seniors. Eileen met her future husband in England during World War II. She later went on to become a British war bride and in the 1950's, a United States citizen. Her war efforts included working for Kodak during World War II, loading film in cameras that pilots would use to document the air combat for the British Royal Air Force.

Survivors include her daughter, Elaine S. Watson and her husband, John C. Watson, Jr. of Monroe; brother, Ronald Knowles of Australia; sister, Elsie Atkins of England; brother-in-law, Greg Thomas; two grandchildren, John Watson and his wife, Georgia and Matthew Watson and his fianceè, Katie; two nephews and nieces, Andrew, Ronald, Julie and Carole. She was predeceased by a brother, John Knowles and a sister, Edna Thomas.

Visitation will be on Saturday, October 25, from 1-3 p.m. at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Ave., Monroe.

A Memorial Service will follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home, with The Rev. Kimberly Bosley officiating. Cremation was at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Memorial contributions may be made to the animal shelter of one's choice.

We met Eileen a few years ago when she came to our office. She was with her daughter Elaine. We knew that she was such a lovely sweet woman from the begining. We were always glad to see them.
We want to send our sympathy and prayers to the family. We will miss and remember her fondly.
