Col. Ball made class fun. Always smiling, he would start class by clapping and rubbing his hands together, raring to get going. Because he seemed to enjoy teaching so much, we enjoyed being there to listen, watch, and learn. And when returning papers, he never flinched but always asked, "Now which one of you is Ringo?"

Col. Ball was very special to me. He was a wonderful teacher and presence in the SMH community. I also had the pleasure of joining he and his wife on trip to England during my 15th summer. They sponsored a memorable trip during which I learned some hard lessons about respect. I will always cherish Col. Ball's patience and ever-bright attitude. My heartfelt thoughts are with Mrs. Ball and the family.

Col. Ball was the first person to teach me "that life is not always fair." This was a shock to me at the ripe old age of 15 but his words have been with me ever since. I remember the twinkle in his eyes, his calm nature and his willingness to call four of his students, John, Paul, George & Ringo!

Tom Ball was a good colleague and a good friend, and he will be missed by all who knew him. He and Beverly introduced many of his students to the geography and culture of Europe in their wonderful summer trips which are a major part of some alumnae memories of Saint Mary's Hall.
