Maria Lopes Obituary

Brockton Maria N. (Batista) Lopes, 89 years, of Brockton, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at the Braemoor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife for 60 years of the late Antonio Lopes. She was born and raised in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugual, and came to the United States in 1968 and settled in Brockton. Before her retirement, she had worked for many years for Sole and Plastics Company. Maria enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, cooking and she loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was the mother of Carlos A. Lopes and his wife Margarida of Brockton, Yvonne Ventresco and her husband John of Easton and the late William Lopes; mother-in-law of Teresa Lopes of Brockton. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; sister of Conceicao Carvalho of the Azores and the late Maria do Carmo. Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123), Brockton, Friday at 10 a.m. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 11 a.m. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery.
