George Pettey Obituary

George Pettey LAKEVILLE George Fred Pettey, age 70 years, of Lakeville, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, at St. Lukes Hospital, in New Bedford, after a long illness. He was the loving husband of Diane C. (Morland) Pettey of 46 years. Born July 24, 1938, in Westport, he was a son of the late Mark and Dorothy (Sheehan) Pettey. Fred had lived in Lakeville for the past 46 years and worked most of his life as a fish processor for several companies and then his own company. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a former member of Lakeville-Freetown Regional School committee and Lakeville School Committee for 12 years, a former little league coach in Lakeville for 12 years and a member of the Old Rochester North Congregational Church in Rochester. He enjoyed fresh water bass fishing, going to fairs, camping, boxing, sports and most of all spending time with his family and grandchildren. In addition to his wife Diane, he is survived by three sons, Shannon Pettey and his wife Cheryl of Fall River, Erik Pettey and his wife Kristin of Lakeville and Shane Pettey of Lakeville; two grandsons, Shane Pettey and Jacob Pettey; three brothers, Mark N. Pettey, Robert J. Pettey and David F. Pettey; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Kenneth I. Pettey. A funeral service will be held Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at 10 a.m. in the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 280 Bedford St., Lakeville. Interment will follow. Visitation will take place Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, from 6-9 p.m. Friends wishing memorial gifts may be given to the North Rochester Congregational Church, c/o Barbara Besse, 289 North Ave., Rochester, MA 02770.
