Aldo Garda Obituary

Aldo Garda BROCKTON Aldo Garda, 74 years, of Brockton, died Oct. 26, 2008, at his home, surrounded by family and friends. This followed a courageous two-year battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband for 44 years of Janice A. (Dovner) Garda. Aldo was born and raised in Taunton, son of the late Giuseppe and Lidia (DeMarco) Garda and was a graduate of Taunton High School and Mass Trade School. He began his work career as a machinist at Etna Twist Drill in Taunton and soon after joined his business partner of over 30 years, Robert Rusconi, to start and run many businesses, including an excavating business, the ownership and management of Frates Dairy Bar in Brockton and Giusti Catering of Taunton. Aldos real love was when he played Monopoly for real in the Rusgar Real Estate Business. He had associations and holdings in Boston, Cape Cod and Rhode Island, where he was loved and respected by all who did business with him. There are many who believe they were a success in business because of his mentoring and support. Aldo was a member of the Air National Guard of Massachusetts and a reservist of the U.S. Air Force/Armed Forces. He enjoyed American history and was in the process of reading all the presidents lives in order. He also enjoyed creating beautiful and useful wood and stone objects and working in his garden. He was especially proud of his veneer inlaid marquetry wooden grandfather clock, but most of all, loved his family and friends. He is survived by his best friend and partner in life, Janice A. (Dovner) Garda; the delights of his life, his daughters, Susan Garda and her partner Jocelyn Macedo of East Bridgewater and Gina Garda of Canton; and his cherished grandchildren, Marisa and Michael Gaffney of Canton; a brother, Lucian Garda and his wife Anne of Long Island, N.Y.; as well as many nieces, cousins and their families. One of the great experiences of Aldos life was his longtime friendship with Russell Wertz, who was a great comfort to him during his illness. Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123), Brockton, Friday at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10 a.m. Burial in Mayflower Hill Cemetery, Taunton. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 p.m. Donations in Aldos name may be made to the Smile Train, 41 Madison Ave., 28th floor, New York, NY 10010, or Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Div. of Development and the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, floor 6, Brookline, MA 02445-9924.
