To Ellen and Chrisanne, my deepest sympathies. I know this is very late in coming and I hope that this won’t be upsetting. I had lost touch with Mike over the years after I left the consulting forestry profession. He was one of my greatest mentors. I met him when I was a Junior at UMass studying forest management, a “long haired hippie freak” as he used to refer to me . He worked as a forester for the cooperative extension service and took me under his wing as an intern one summer and as YCC supervisor the next. After graduating, he introduced me to many people In the industry and was instrumental in me getting my first job in forestry.
We became friends. We both had daughters at about the same time. As I said we lost touch but I never forgot him. I went to look him up to maybe reconnect and was very saddened to learn he had passed. Again, my condolences. The world lost a good man with a good heart.

Dear Ellen and Chrisanne,

I wondered why Mike had not replied to my last e-mail message, and I had been praying for him each day. He was so good to me during and after my cancer surgery last year (on his birthday, April 2). He sent many notes and Mass intentions and funny cards - he was a very special person. I was privileged to sit near him in the Westboro office of National Grid. He was so loved by people there and will be greatly missed. May he be with God and may you be comforted in this terrible loss.
