William Charles Obituary

William John Charles MARSHFIELD September 27, at the age of 85, loving father of Patricia LeForestier, Richard, David, Steven and James Charles and Judith Henderson and Christine Willis and the late William J. Charles, Jr. Brother of the late George, Leo, Michael and Jenny Charles. Also survived by l4 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren and the late grandchild Jerry John Henderson. He was born in So. Boston, long time resident of Marshfield. Bill was retired from the DPW, Marshfield. He served in the U.S. Marines during WW11. He received the Purple Heart, WW11 Victory Medal, America Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 2 bronze stars and Commendation Ribbon. He enjoyed family, gardening, clamming and camping. A mans work lives after him. Anyone who has ever known him and enjoyed his garden will always be reminded of him every time they pass by. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. May he rest in peace. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at l0 a.m. in St. Christines Church, Marshfield. Interment at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Arrangements by MacDonald Funeral Home, l755 Ocean St., Rte. l39, Marshfield. Mr. Charles,
Sir, as a fellow Marine I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the USMC in the Pacific during WW II fighting the Japanese. It was the history and accomplishments made by you and your fellow Marines back then that all of us Marines who followed in your footsteps have always tried to live up to. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Dear family, Silver Pines won't be the same without him. I'll miss seeing him working in the garden as I walk the neighborhood. He always had a smile and a big hello for me. I was lucky enough to get some of his beautiful hydrangeas for my yard and will think of him whenever I look out my window. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
