Donald Keaney Obituary

Donald F. Keaney HANSON Donald F. Keaney 76 died in his Hanson home on Thursday November 20th after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of the late Lois (Carlson) Keaney. Born and raised in Brockton he was the son of the late Francis and Grace (Obear) Keaney, and a graduate of Brockton High School. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean War from 1951 1955. He attended Northeastern University for his undergraduate studies and later his Masters Degree in electrical engineering. For thirty-seven years he worked as an Electrical Engineer and Director at the MIT Instrumentation Lab and the Charles Stark Draper Lab in Cambridge. His expertise afforded him the opportunity to serve as a part time Lecturer at Boston University. He was also a Licensed Professional Engineer in Massachusetts. Donald resided in his home in Hanson that he both designed and built in 1961. He was an active member of the town and was proud to have been elected to the Hanson School Committee in 1970. He was a master woodworker and he enjoyed repairing and rebuilding antique clocks. However his greatest joy came from fishing and lobstering along with his family on his boat the Lois Lorraine which he moored in Duxbury. He is survived by his two sons Bryan G. Keaney of Dedham and Jeffrey D. Keaney and his wife Colleen of Hanson, and his two grandchildren Shannon M. Lewis and Steven M. Lewis. He was the brother of the late Elaine (Keaney) Boyle. Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours to be held Tuesday, November 25th from 4:00-8:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the Rotary) Whitman. Dear Keaney Family,

I wanted to extend my deepest sympathy for the loss of your Dad. I took care of him briefly while at Davita and was amazed that while enduring all that he was he remained a wonderfully kind man. It was obvious that this is just the way he was. A great man. I consider myself honored to have known him. Please know that I am thinking of you at this difficult time.

Sincerely,
Heather O'Brien

Keaney Family
I am so sorry for your loss. I didn't know Don personally but the stories that Colleen told about him made us all feel that we knew him for years. She loved him and knew he loved her. He was a special man in her life as well as his son's. He loved his family so much. Please take comfort in knowing that he is at peace, and that he will always be with you.
God Bless

One of the most beautiful things about your dad was his warm and caring personality, I instantly felt welcomed, as if family, every time we talked. Over the past year we had become good friends and I would stop by whenever I saw him outside for a visit. He told me he would always watch for me as I walked by with my dog and call me over, but I always watched and looked for him too, and was sorry that I had missed him when he wasn't there. I was lucky to have him in my life and I will miss him very much. I will miss his warm smile, as it would wash over me and fill my heart, and make my day a little brighter every time. I loved his stories and his laugh. You are all so blessed to have had a dad so loving and so proud of you all. He always told me how much he loved and appreciated you all. I hope all the memories and love you all shared helps you through this very difficult time.
Much love, Sue B Goode...

No one could have asked for a more special man to call her father in law. He always made me feel so special. His family came first and foremost and I was so lucky to have him in my life. He was the MOST unselfish man I have ever met ALWAYS! His last words to me was how fortunate he was to have the family he did. We were the fortunate ones. He is now with his wife and we will meet again someday. I love you daddio!!!!!
