Audrey Pickett Obituary

Audrey Pickett HINGHAM Audrey (O'Neill) Pickett of Hingham, June 19, 2009. Wife of the late Robert D. Pickett, Sr. Loving mother of Robert Pickett, Jr. & his wife Catherine of Plymouth, Gilbert Pickett & his wife Patricia of Tewksbury, and Deanne Smith & her husband Joseph of Plymouth. Sister of Marion O'Neill of Hilton Head, SC, Marilyn Fitzgerald of Norwell, Paul O'Neill of Eliot, ME, and the late Elizabeth Bund. Also lovingly survived by 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. A member of the "Greatest Generation", Audrey O'Neill Pickett grew up during the Depression and WWII. A 1939 graduate of North Quincy High School, she was very outgoing and athletic. She was a cheerleader for the football team, played many sports, was a powerful swimmer and played a role in the Senior Class Play. After high school she studied drama at Emerson College, worked on the Yankee Clipper train to New York, and at the Army Exchange. In 1942 she became one of the first stewardesses for Northeast Airlines and was part of their marketing campaign. She married Bob Pickett of Hingham in 1943. Bob worked in the Aerospace Industry for over 40 years in CT, NY, and MA. Audrey was a full time mother, raising her 3 children. She and her husband Bob lived in Hingham for over 40 years until Bob passed away in 2003. During their 60 years of marriage, they always cherished family gatherings, trips with their children, visits to the Cape, and various sailing adventures. In later years, Audrey loved to tell her grandchildren and great grandchildren stories about her family when she was growing up, stories told with great love and warmth. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM, Sunday 4-8 p.m. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 9:15 a.m. prior to the Funeral Mass in Saint Paul's Church, Hingham at 10 a.m. Burial in St. Paul's Cemetery, Hingham. My sympathy goes to you on the loss of your mother. I have never met her but feel that if I had we would have had common stories to relate. I was a stewardess with Northeast Airlines as well, from 1954 until I married in 1956. I'm originally from Lowell, Massachusetts but reside in York, Maine. Marilyn Donnelly Herbert
