John Hancock Obituary

John Francis Hancock Uncasville CT John Francis Hancock passed away peacefully, November 2, 2007 at his home after a brief illness. He was born September 25, 1938 in Boston MA, the son of the late Winton and Frances (Gallagher) Hancock. He was a graduate of Weymouth High School, a graduate from the apprentice shipfitter program at the Bethlehem Steel Company in Quincy Mass and a graduate of Northeastern University in Boston MA, earning an AS degree in Mechanical Engineering and a BS in Structural Engineering. He married Patricia Daley on October 20, 1962; he served 6 years in the Army National Guard in Quincy MA. He worked 39 years in shipbuilding at General Dynamics, Quincy MA and Electric Boat in Groton, retiring in 1996. He taught courses at the EB Apprentice School. He recently worked at LOI Golf Course. In addition to the love of his life Patricia, he is survived by his sons John R. Hancock and wife Laura of Weymouth, MA, Timothy C. Hancock and Patricia DiSalvo, of Randolph, MA, daughter Lisa I. Smith and husband Gregory of Quaker Hill, brother Edward Hancock, sister Joan Wallace and husband Robert, sister in law Geraldine Hancock of No. Weymouth, MA, brothers-in-law Robert Daley and Richard and Jelly Daley and by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Charles Hancock. He was a devoted husband and father. His family will deeply grieve his loss. He was the best at everything he did. He enjoyed family, traveling and loved golf. He was kind, fun loving and always fair. He will be greatly missed by his friends and his golf buddies. He was a member of the Shenecossett Golf Course, a member of the K of C in New London, the Elks Lodge 2163 in Groton and was a member of the Electric Boat Management Association. A memorial mass will be held at St. Johns Church, 22 Maple Ave., Uncasville CT, adjacent to Rt. 32, on November 17 at 11:00am. Burial will be private for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Johns memory may be made to Hospice of S.E. CT, 179 Gallivan La, Box 902, Uncasville CT 06382 or to the L&M Cancer Center in New London. The Montville Funeral Home of Church and Allen, Rte. 32 Montville is entrusted with arrangements.

John was one of the first people I met in 1966 when I went to work at JJ Henry in Cohasset, he taught me a lot in those early years. Through the years I worked with John at General Dynamics in both Quincy, MA and Groton, CT. He will be deeply missed, may God comfort you in your loss.
