Tina Gottesman-Alves
October 13, 2008
I'm Tina Gottesman-Alves and Arlene Spencer was my fifth grade teacher at Hoffman Elementary School in Elmira around 1958-9. I think it was her first year there. I absolutely adored her. She was so much fun! Less formal than the other teachers and she had such a great sense of humor. I remember laughing a lot and loving that year. I also remember the science experiment with burned sugar that stank up the entire floor of the school! Arlene always made me think of Mary Martin as Peter Pan - a spirited gal with twinkling eyes and a ready smile. I ran into her several times many years later, and she was just the same. I'm very sorry to know that she's gone but I'll always keep her in my heart with great affection.
