Elmer Sparagna Obituary
JUNE 3, 1920 - AUGUST 8, 2009
Elmer J. Sparagna (born Amerigo Sparagna), 89, died peacefully at home on Saturday, August 8, 2009 with his wife and eldest daughter by his side.
Elmer was a decorated WWII veteran and P.O.W., European theatre, having served with the US Army. He retired from the U. S. Postal Service after 30 years of delivering mail on foot. He will be missed by many of his friends at The Woods of Holly Tree, where he loved residing.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanie Sparagna; two daughters, Dr. Delores Doherty of St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada and Gloria Jean Smith of St. Louis, Missouri; one son, Peter Sparagna of Albany, New York; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on a future date, to be announced, at The Woods at Holly Tree in Wilmington.
Elmer's wife and family would like to thank Cindy and Ed Stoner, Dr. Mary Rudyk, New Hanover Co. EMS, the Liberty Hospice Staff, and the staff of The Woods at Holly Tree for all of their help and support.
