Kent Monson Obituary

Published by Star Tribune on Aug. 17, 2008.
Monson, Kent Howard age 21. Kent was taken from us doing what he loved, riding his motorcycle. Kent was full of life and never met a stranger. He walked into a room and the room would come to life. From the time he was a little boy, Kent loved taking things apart and rebuilding them. He took his passion and made it his career. He grew into a wonderful man, a loving boyfriend and an amazing mechanic. He graduated from Spring Lake Park High School in 2005 and recently graduated from Universal Technical Institute in Chicago. Preceded in death by grandfather, Carl Monson. Kent is so loved and will always be remembered by his parents, Keith and Tammy Monson; sister, Brittany Monson & friend Spencer; his loving girlfriend, Kristina Sardilli; grandparents, Faye Monson and G. Mark & Shirley Denyes; uncles, Gary (Loxie) Monson, Wayne (Jeny) Monson, Dwight (Sue) Denyes, Timothy (Laura) Denyes; aunts, Janice (Kenny) DePlazes, Kimberly (Tom Johnson) Denyes, Shelli (David) Lekson; and countless cousins that love him and will miss him! Service will be held at Emmanuel Christian Center, 7777 University Ave NE, Spring Lake Park on Tuesday, Aug. 19th at 7:00 PM.

Keith, Tammy, Brittany, I worked at Emmanuel for a couple years, and babysat for Shelli. I never saw Kent without a ready smile and a willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. I grieve with you for your loss, and I'm praying for you all.

I was so saddened to hear about the loss of Kent. It has been years since I had seen Kent, but I do remember my brother (Bryce) running around with Kent and Josh when they were little boys. My sympathies go out to the family on your loss.

Our hearts are with you. Our family only knew Kent as a small child with a sweet mischevious face. Our son Spencer even remembered him. They spent every week together while we were in MOPS, probably torturing some loving grandma. We love you and love your family. Please know that we are praying for a new Grace each and every day for all of you. We can't imagine the heartache you must be experiencing. It sounds like Kent grew into an amazing young man, and I am sorry you have to be separated from him too early. We think of you and your family often, and especially at this time, our prayers are with you constantly.

My condolences go out to Kent's family and friends, Im so sorry for your loss. I went to school with Kent and I remember having Science with him almost every year since about 7th grade. Everyday there would be something new and exciting for Kent to get into. Even though the teachers may not have though it was very funny, he was truly one person that could put a smile on everyones face. -Kent- You were an awesome person with such a bright spirit, R.I.P. my friend.

Keith and Tammy, I had never met you son Keith but I felt that I would have like him very much. Based on the service last night, he was portrayed as a young man that could be a prankster but always with a kind heart. Most importantly he always looked out for his friends and family. My wife Kerry (Neumann) and I were both overcome with emotion over the beautiful service and the love we felt from everyone towards Kent. God Bless both of you and may your strong faith help you and your family during these trying time. Kerry and I both are praying for your family.

I first met Kent when I interviewed him for a technician position I had available. I knew right away he was something special and we brought him on immediately. Kent was an excellent technician and an even better friend, always full of surprises! I remember him telling me all about his folks and how proud he was when he brought them into the shop to show them around. I knew Kent pretty well and I know what he would say about all this, which brings both a smile and a tear. My deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones. Ride on Kent, I'll see you again.

My deepest sympathies go out to Kent's family and friends. My son went to HS with Kent and almost went to UTI too. I heard that Kent excelled at Motorcycle mechanics and was working in a motorcycle shop. I was happy to hear that he was successful in pursuing his passion. I can't imagine what its like losing a son or daughter. It has to be excruciating. Kent lived life on the edge and that was the way he wanted it. I am hoping that his friends and families find some comfort in that. His presence and smile will be missed.

Kent lived each day like it was his last, never taking life for granted. He had this incredible energy about him and never took himself too seriously. I had the privilege of knowing Kent for the past two years. I have so many memories of Kent. More than anything, he loved bikes and he loved Nina. He always had a story to tell and was so enthusiastic about everything he did. He was a “give you the shirt off his back” kind of guy. He would do anything to help a friend, even if it meant going into the shop on his day off to make sure I passed the vehicle emissions test. When it came to cars and bikes he had a gift. The same guy that could make you laugh until you cry for no reason at all could also take apart an entire motorcycle piece by piece and put it all back together. He always impressed me! I struggle to comprehend the pain that his family and Nina are going through right now, but hope you find comfort in knowing that we will all meet again. My prayers are with you.

I knew Kent through my fiance Ryan Anderson who knew Kent from when they were younger and Ryan lived in Spring Lake Park. Kent was Ryan's inspiration for going out to Chicago to attend UTI. While we were out in Chicago Kent showed us the ropes and took time to talk with Ryan about school. We had great times with Kent, he was a great person and fun to be around. He will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and his girlfriend.

Kent, we know you are up there riding with a smile on your face-- you will be greatly missed.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to the entire family on your great loss! My ability to write just how sad I am to hear of Kents passing, well I just can't put it into words!
My son played with Kent when you lived in Coon Rapids off of Redwood St NW until your family moved.
Bryce always thought about Kent, always wondered how he was doing. He still keeps in touch with Josh Lacina and both were so saddened as well at the loss of such a neat kid who was so adored by many!
Again, my sincerest condolences to you all for your loss, his memory will live on in the hearts of many!

Keith and Tammy- I am so sorry to hear of your loss. We lived on 118th in Coon Rapids when the boys were little. My son Josh, Jimmy and Kent always played together. My fondest memory is when Kent found the huge snapping turtle in Sand Creek. He and the boys were pulling it around in the blue recycle bin on top of a wagon showing everyone. Then the DNR came and said it could have bit one of their fingers off! I know you are both very strong in your faith and that your love of God will take care of you.
Our prayers are with you all.

Keith and Tammy: I know only prayers have any power at a time as this. I had not seen Kent since you had your trailer up at Clear Lake. All I can say is that I am so sorry. Will come to memorial service on Tues evening, but you will be very busy so thought I would jot this message down. I cannot relate to your sorrow or pain, but can say I am glad you and Kim have had a lot of time together recently, so draw on that strength. Am praying for all of you and hugging you in the Spirit. Hugged Kim and Tom this morning and am glad they will be with you this week. Just keep in the Word for power to go forward for each other. Love, Grandma Joyce Johnson (Tom's mom)

Kent was a great friend. He was the type of person that would do anything and everything to help someone in need. I'm so honored to have got to know him so well the past two years. We shared so many good times and those good times will continue to live on in his memory. I was fortunate enough to work with him and see what a great mechanic he was too. His passion for motorcycles was inspiring to say the least. Kent will be forever missed and I look forward to the day we can ride together again.

I only met Kent once when he came to my house with my son (Andrew Lehmann). Andrew and Kent were classmates at UTI, roomates, co-workers, but most importantly they were friends. Close friends. I often talked to Andrew on the phone and Kent would yell from the background, say hi to your mom. I often heard Andrew talk very highly of Kent. He not only spoke of Kents ability as a mechanic but of his wonderful personality. Kent will be greatly missed by all who knew him. We will never understand why Kent was taken from earth so soon, we can only know that he made his time here impressionable for many people. The one time I met him I knew immediately he was a geniune person of good character with a zest for life. He was funny, kind, generous, and a good friend to all. Please accept my condolences in the loss of your son.

Several years ago, I worked with Keith at Bermo, Inc.

Keith was extremely proud of his wife, and especially of his children.

God works in mysterious ways.

Kent's work here is done, but he was chosen for a mission that he'll perform with competency and compassion - just as Kent did with his time here on Earth.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well-lived.
