Helga Friederike Remler

REMLER, Helga Friederike (Delitzsch), a loving mother, devoted wife, and resident of Williamsburg for 41 years, has died after a long battle with cancer. Dr. Remler was born in 1937 in KÂ"nigsberg, East Prussia. She grew up in Bremen, Germany, after narrowly escaping the Russian Army as a little girl toward the end of World War II. She came to America on Valentine's Day of 1956 and settled in New York City where she met her husband of 51 years, Edward Remler. After they were married, the couple eventually settled in Williamsburg in 1967. Dr. Remler pursued a university education both before and after the birth of her two children, receiving her Bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; her Master's degree from The College of William & Mary; and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The Virginia Consortium in Clinical Psychology. Dr. Remler was a highly respected therapist in the Tidewater area, specializing in child psychology. Over a period spanning two decades, she treated many patients, most recently from private practice in Williamsburg. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Edward A. Remler; son, Daniel L. Remler of Williamsburg; and daughter, Ariel Remler Carpenter of Los Angeles, Calif.; as well as two grandchildren, Emma Rose Carpenter and Jacob Edward Carpenter. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 10 a.m., at the Temple Beth El on Jamestown Road. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in the name of the deceased to either the Hospice House of Williamsburg or the Childrens' Ward of Eastern State Hospital.
