GRIFFIN, Alison Rae Helmlinger, 35, of Midlothian, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2008 after an unexpected battle with cancer. She was a registered operating room nurse at VCU Health Systems. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Larry Duke, and her grandparents. She is survived by her loving husband, Chad P. Griffin; a daughter, Cali Nichole Griffin; mother, Delores "Dee" Duke; and father, Ray Kenneth Helmlinger. Also surviving are her sister, Jael Nicole Svadeba; stepbrothers, Jeffrey Duke (Tina) and Steven Duke (Kellye); and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a multitude of loving friends. The family will receive friends at the Chesterfield Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 14301 Ashbrook Pkwy., Tuesday, August 12 from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in Swift Creek Baptist Church with interment in Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to "College Trust Fund for Cali", c/o First Market Bank, 10001 Hull Street Road, Midlothian, Va. 23112.

I am so sorry for the family's loss. Words can not express how sweet of a person she was. She will be remembered by us all. Alison used to cut my hair years ago and though we've only seen each other from time to time she was always so caring. She will be missed, may god keep you all strong through this difficult time.

My mom is currently in hospice I know how hard it is to watch someone you love so much struggle through this horrible disease. I read this poem in the hospital last week before she came home on hospice... just wanted to share.
