COX, Lillian Stanley, 85, of Mechanicsville, died peacefully on August 13, 2008 after a short illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pinckney Cox; two brothers, Fred and Llewellyn Stanley; and a devoted friend, Lucille Gaines. She is survived by her two sisters, Hazel Kelly of Blackstone and Ellen Robinson and husband, Trevor, nieces and nephews, Neil Robinson, David and Roslyn Robinson, Gail and Glen Petty and Wendy and Robert Jacobsen and their families, all of Victoria, Australia; her brother, Malcolm Stanley and his family of Toronto, Canada; devoted nieces and nephews, Susan and Gary Senechal of Virginia Beach and Stephen and Karen Kelly of Richmond; grand-nieces and nephews, Jesse Senechal and Erin McGrath of Richmond and Anna and Kevin Johnson of Ketchum, Idaho. Lillian was born and raised in British India and educated in England. During WWII, she served in communications with the Women's Royal Naval Service. After the war in 1947, she followed her sister to Richmond where she met her husband at work. They both were longtime employees of C&P Telephone, later Verizon. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling extensively, caring for her cats and gardening at their home in Mechanicsville. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, August 16, at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Avenue. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hanover Humane Society, P.O. Box 1011, Ashland, Va. 23005.
