Just received news of Ardie's passing from Willie. He was one of the Mariners Museum's finest and a pleasure to work with. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Martha, Ardie was cheerful to the end and you were a cheerful servant to him through it all. I had forgotten Ardie was one of eleven children and graduate of EC Glass which is also my high school alma mater. I am sorry to be living abroad this year and unable to honor Ardie by attending his memorial service. Know that many persons care and are sorry for your sorrow during this time.

The news of Ardie's passing caused me to look at the listing in the paper which described his 47 year marriage (a great accomplishment this day and time), his nice solid family and grandchildren and his extensive devotion to career and community work. I did not know the extent of his involvement in Newport News and other cities. Not only will he be missed by his loving family, but the community as a whole that needs more like him.

Ardie and I (Randolph) were in the same class at E. C. Glass, and although I have not seen him since those days, I remember him well and fondly. A wonderful guy. I know the family finds solace in memories of him as well, and my heart goes out to them in this time of their loss.
