WILKERSON, Thomas William "Bill", 96, died Saturday, August 16, 2008, in The Masonic Home of Virginia, Richmond. Born in Campbell County August 9, 1912, he was the son of the late Homer Bradley Wilkerson and Virginia Lee Wilkerson. Bill lived in the Lynchburg area for most of his life. For the past 8 years, he had lived at The Masonic Home of Virginia in Richmond, living independently up until one year ago. Bill attended Lynchburg Public Schools, and was retired from Greater Lynchburg Transit Company, where he had been a transportation supervisor. He had been an active member of College Hill Baptist Church, where he had served on the Board of Deacons for 40 years and had also been Adult Sunday School Superintendent. Bill was a 50-plus year member of Marshall Lodge Number 39, A.F. & A.M., Lynchburg. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy "Dot" Carwile Wilkerson. He is survived by his daughter, Jean Wilkerson Davis of Richmond; two grandchildren, Betsy Gray Flowers of Richmond and Marshall Stedman Gray Jr. of Hillsborough, North Carolina; and five great-grandchildren. Also survived by two sisters, Lillian W. Thompson of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and Beulah Couch of Lynchburg. Bill was a true Christian, always optimistic and a joy to be around. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. His family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at Heritage Funeral Service, 427 Graves Mill Road, Lynchburg, Virginia 24502. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 20, 2008, in New Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, 2084 New Chapel Road, Rustburg, Virginia 24588, by The Rev. Marty S. Tew. The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to The Masonic Home of Virginia, 4101 Nine Mile Road, Richmond, Virginia 23223. Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory, 427 Graves Mill Road, Lynchburg, Va. 24502, (434) 239-2405 is assisting his family.
