Emmitt Dawkins

DAWKINS, Emmitt, 87, of Richmond, Virginia, passed away August 16, 2008 after a brief illness. Emmitt was born in 1920 in Winston County, Mississippi, to the late Linnie and Ida (Gentry) Dawkins, and was educated in the Meridian School System. He was a World War II veteran and established his career as a carpenter in Richmond, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, to whom he was married for 53 years. He will be deeply missed by his sister, Mary Jackson of Greenwood Mississippi, and brother, Henry J. Dawkins of Chesapeake, Virginia. Remains rest at the Carlton T. Brooks Funeral Home, 2200 Hull Street. Funeral services will be held Saturday (today) at 2 p.m. at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 2611 Bells Road, Richmond, Virginia, where remains will lie in state 1 p.m. Rev. Dr. Ronald C. Taylor, interim pastor, officiating. Interment Maury Cemetery. Family and friends attending services assemble at the church Saturday, 1:30 p.m.
