Charles Mapes Obituary

MAPES, Charles Maynard Jr., born May 6, 1913, died August 19, 2008. He was a founder, corporate Vice President and General Manager of the Consumer Products Division of Reynolds Metals Company. The son of Charles Maynard Mapes and Laura Hands Mapes of New York, N.Y., he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Isabel Mapes. He is survived by his son, Charles Maynard Mapes III of Dallas, Texas; his daughter, Virginia Mapes Street of Manakin-Sabot; grandchildren, Dr. W. Scott Street IV, Christopher Forrest Street of Richmond, Elizabeth Street Gualdoni of Virginia Beach, Justin Geary Mapes, Kyle Geary Mapes, Heather Leigh Duke of Dallas, Texas, and Ryan Matthew Glenn of New York; and great-grandchildren, W. Scott Street V, Kennedy Ann Duke, Shaun Paul Gualdoni, Kasey America Street, Ella Kate Duke, Lydia Margaret Gualdoni, Madelyn Louise Gualdoni, Charlotte Lee Street, and Charles Geary Mapes. He was educated at Blair Academy and Lehigh University. He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, the Country Club of Virginia, Service Corps of Retired Executives, Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, and he was past president of the "55" Golf Association. The family will receive friends Friday, September 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. at 500 Meadow View Lane, Manakin-Sabot. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Virginia, 9221 Forest Hill Ave., Richmond, Va. 23235, or the charity of your choice.
