Phillip Shackelton Obituary

SHACKELTON, Col. Phillip (U.S. Army Ret.), 90, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia. He is also survived by his daughter, Sharon Looney and her husband, Terry; son, Bruce Shackelton and his wife, Jan; grandchildren, Andrew Looney and his wife, Erin, Melissa Looney, Craig Looney, Ryan Shackelton and his wife, Rachel, Robert Shackelton and his wife, Erica; and two great-grandchildren. Col. Shackelton served 35 proud years in the U.S. Army. He served during WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Throughout a distinguished military career, Col. Shackelton received many honors and commendations, including the Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit. The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the Bon Secours Hospice and the St. Francis Hospital staff. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, September 15, 2008 in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 4600 Cox Rd., Suite 130, Glen Allen, Va. 23060.
