Mrs. Margo Shackelton, a beacon of love and joy, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2024, at the age of 86 in Rhinebeck, NY. Born on February 20, 1938, in Pleasant Valley, NY, Margo was a cherished daughter to Ruth Sutherland VanVoorhis and Richard VanVoorhis. As the eighth of eleven children, she grew up in a bustling household filled with warmth and laughter.
Margo's heart was always her compass, leading her to the love of her life, Edwin Shackelton. Together, they built a life rich in love and shared experiences. She was a devoted mother to her children, Dawn Revelle, Tracey Perry, Kellie Alexander, and James Shackelton. As a mother-in-law, she welcomed Billy Perry with open arms. Her legacy continued to blossom with her beloved grandchildren, Bill, Tiphanie, Taylor, Michael, Jimmy, Jonny, and Trevor, and she was overjoyed to see her family grow with the addition of great-grandchildren, Elyas, Lylah, Aliza, Savanna, and Ali, and a great-great-grandson, Mikey.
For over 40 years, Margo was a dedicated homemaker and a self-employed housekeeper, taking pride in making the world a cleaner and brighter place for everyone around her. Her tireless work ethic and meticulous care were a testament to her commitment to excellence in all aspects of her life.
Margo's passion for life shone through in her hobbies and interests. She relished the simple pleasure of "putzing" around her house, transforming it into a festive haven for every holiday with her creative touch. Her love for gardening and yard work was evident in the oasis she cultivated, which became a cherished gathering spot for family and friends. Margo's zest for life made her home the heart of many memorable celebrations. Her Christmas Eve parties were legendary, and her baked beans became a sought-after staple at every BBQ.
Always ready for an adventure, Margo's enthusiasm was contagious. She was a constant presence at her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's sporting and school events, cheering them on with unwavering support. Her ability to find joy in every moment made her an inspiration to all who knew her.
Margo's sense of humor was as endearing as it was infectious. She could light up a room with her laughter and had a knack for making everyone around her feel special. Her loving, creative, and funny nature will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Though Margo's physical presence is no longer with us, the memories she created, the traditions she cherished, and the love she shared will forever be a part of the fabric of her family's lives. Her legacy of love, laughter, and the importance of family will remain a guiding light for generations to come.
Mrs. Margo Shackelton's life was a beautiful tapestry of devotion, joy, and unwavering spirit. She leaves behind a family that adores her, a community that respects her, and a world that is undoubtedly better for having had her in it. Margo's journey through life was a remarkable one, and she will be remembered with immense love and profound gratitude.
