Dear Mrs. Stokes, Michelle and Amy,
I'm sorry to be a voice from the past under such sad circumstances, but my mom just told me about Mr. Stokes's passing. I know that we haven't seen each other in a while but I think of you often and my heart goes out to you. The times that I spent at your house (including every day before school!) are some of the best of my childhood. As a working mom now (we just had our second child, Rosie, on 8/29/08), I know how much that must have meant to my mother.

I can still remember when I ran into Mr. Stokes much later on grounds at UVa. He recognized me and I knew him right away by his voice, which was always so gentle. I'll always remember that gentle voice and think fondly of your whole family. My parents are still in Nuttree Woods. I'd love to run into you sometime.

Your whole family is in the Haas family's thoughts and prayers.
Much love,
Lauren

Barry was a unique and wonderful person who gave freely all through his life to any that needed it. Going to school with him for only two years at Norview was a blessing to me. God bless all of those who are left behind to try and find some way to fill the void he has left.

Mary Alice, I don't know if you remember me but I went to Norview with you and Barry. I got to know you better after school when we rode the bus to work together. I knew Barry from about the age of 12 at Coleman Place Church. I lost my husband about 8 years ago so I know the pain you and your children feel now. I will keep you in my prayers.

Dear Mary,
My thoughts and prayers are with you. My Grandfather also had Parkinson's, so I know what a rough time it has been. I pray that you will remember and treasure all the "good times" and forever keep him in your heart. God bless you and the family. Your friend and classmate,

Mary Alice, my heart just broke when I read about Barry. I know there are no words that can take away the pain you feel right now. I lost my mom 7 days ago and feel like I'm on an emotional roller coaster. Having been married for 43 years to Barry you must have some wonderful memories and a wonderful family to share them with. I remember the last time I called I asked Barry if his eyes were still so blue. He was such a polite and gentle person. I'm thinking & praying for all.

Mary, I am so sorry to hear of Barry's passing. I remember so fondly the handsome young man who was so sweet and totally devoted to you, the belle of the ball! How blessed you two were to have found each other so young and spend so many years together creating a family and sharing so many of life's experiences. I only wish you and Barry had been able to come to our 45th reunion as it would have been great to see you both.
Hugs,
Joan

Dear Mary, I do not know if you remember me or not, Alice Lee Scoggins (now Scott). I was honored to attend Norview High School for Freshman Year. Barry was always so nice and kind to me. I had intended to send an e-mail after the 45th reunion to let you and Barry know that you were in my thoughts..My Mom and Dad have died in the last few years and my Dad had Parkinson. Tom and I took care of him so we know progression of the illness. That was a nice obituary well written. We send our Love, Thoughts and Prayers to You and Your Family, Alice and Tom Scott

Barry was a great teammate. He always played unselfishly and for the good of the team. He conducted himself the same way on and off the court. He must have come from a good family. Everybody liked and admired him. He'll be missed by all of us.

Mary and family. I was stunned to hear of Barry's Passing. I know he must be in a better place now and the Parkinson's was quite a battle. I sent a digest version of his obituary to all of our high school class members. I have received numerous replies. Quite few wanted your address, and I hope you do not mind me giving it to them. Barry and I grew up together as you know, and he was always the a great leader no matter what we were doing. I just wish I had gotten up to see you before this happen. Fondest Regards...
