Phyllis J. Sledge

SLEDGE, Phyllis J., 79, of Reedville, Va., and Brandon, Fla., formerly of Richmond, widow of Herbert Sledge, died September 2, 2008. She is survived by her daughter, Dorri Warren and husband, Steve, of Brandon, Fla.; son, Jay Sledge and wife, Robin, of Yorktown, Va.; six grandchildren, Laura, Steven, Timothy, Daniel and Caleb Warren, and Jesse Sledge; and her sister, Shirley Howells of Longwood, Fla. She graduated from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, and was a teacher in Chicago and Richmond before starting her family. She was active in the Fleeton Beach Community in Reedville, Va. Mrs. Sledge was a loving mother and grandmother. The family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Bliley's - Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday in Woodland Cemetery, Ashland. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Northumberland County Animal Shelter or Northumberland Rescue Squad.
