Hey Sweetie,
I've been thinking about you sooo much (I always do really). I'm missing you more and more. Like you used to say "That don't make no sense :) This was your favorite time of the year-even when you were a little thing and got your birdwell bathing suit & docksiders--for Christmas. I guess last year it was still a terrible dream I was going to wake up from. If only it was!!! All of your people love you & miss you so much!!!!! You have "Charlie Chute" to play with now and I know Mema has been taking great care of you. And if she needs help, I know Francis is there too. I love you so much and send the biggest hug ever. Knowing that you are with Jesus gives me enough peace to go on. Love you, love you, love you. And I hope you shaved :)

On a week where it was supposed to rain every day (and has), the sun came out and shined bright today. I can’t help but feel you are responsible for this. The first Hokies game was this past weekend, and something didn’t feel right even though I was in the loving company of friends and family… I didn’t receive a phone call from you saying “Let’s go Hokies”. I really miss that phone call, but even more that you weren’t here with us. I sure do miss my big brother. Thank you for bringing out the sun.

Love always,
Your younger brother, Casey

Hello, I graduated with Scott from KWHS in 1992, I was saddened when I learned of his death this past weekend. I wish I had had the opportunity to attend the service. Whenever I went into Food Lion, when visiting KW, we would always talk and catch up. He will be greatly missed. God bless him and his family in their time of sorrow.

You were such a good person and had a wonderful heart. I came to Food Lion every day and hoped I would see your smiling face. You were always so happy and always had this grin on your face.. You were a sweet heart and will be missed dearly.

I just want to thank everyone who has written in Scottie's guest book. Everyone has said such kind and nice things about Scottie. Scottie always seemed to look up to so many people. I don't think he realized how many looked up to him.

Scottie will be truly missed. He was always so friendly and talkative when I would see him at the store. He always inquired about my family too. I was shocked to just hear this news. My prayers are with his family.

My heart and prayers are with you in this tragic time. I was heartbroken to hear of Scottie's accident. It seems like yesterday we were all riding bikes around the neighborhood care free and innocent, exploring the woods, climbing trees, getting chased by dobermans, playing video games and rollerskating and skateboarding in the Denton garage. Many of my childhood memories included Kami, Casey, and Scottie. All of those memories came rushing back. Like Jon, I always seemed to see Scottie on my visits back to KW in Food Lion and he always asked how I was and how Jon was doing. He is a very special soul and he left a lot of wonderful memories for everyone he knew. I have peace in knowing that he he is in a better place now.

Scottie,
You will be missed by all. It is so nice to see all of the people who have come together for you and the family. I have thoroughly enjoyed hearing the stories from all of your friends.
Scott, Debra, Kami, & Casey,
The river pictures brought back some wonderful memories of our time together when we were little. I can't stop thinking about Mema and how she always took care of everyone and now she is reunited with Scottie to do it all over again. I am thinking about you all always. I love you!

Scott, Debra, Kami, Casey, Ed, Robin, Michael, Travis, Mike and all of the Denton Family,

I am so sorry for your loss! My heart is sad for all of you…what is life going to be without our Scottie? I have to tell you, I have known you all for a long time and I have never met such a loving family in my life. Friends can get you through this, but I have to say the Denton family you are all a strong loving family and that is what is going to help you to get through this…is your love that I have watched for 30 years for each other. Papa and Mema did well and Scottie was very lucky to be raised in such a loving family! We will all miss Scottie so very much, but we are so lucky that he is with Mema…I can only imagine how happy she is right now. Papa, I know you will miss Scottie’s everyday phone calls…you were so special to him. Scott and Debra you are and were such good parents to Scottie – don’t ever forget that and Kamie and Casey, Scottie loved you both so much – keep his memory in your heart. I will always help you – I have a lot of memories.

One memory was: He had some cool sun glasses down at the river. Bean and I really liked them and he was working at the grocery store. The sun glasses came from the grocery store so he kept make trips back to the grocery store for Bean and me for these sun glasses like his.

Scottie was living with a loving heart and Scottie died with a loving heart…just like the rest of your family.

Good job Mr. Denton!

I love you all and you all are in my heart!

When I walked into the funeral home yesterday my heart started to burn. I could not hold my tears in for they just started to poor. Scottie you are going to be so deeply missed I just cant express how much. When we had the memorial at your house for you I was not sure how I was going to be able to hold it in and of course I let it go again. I was crying for the sake of not seeing you in person anymore but I know that you are watching over all of us. I wrote this message for you that was read at your funeral and I just want you to know that we all loved you deeply. You will forever be greatly missed. Love you scottie,

Dear Scottie, I don't know where to begin. I met him almost 7 years ago if not more and at first he was so shy and quiet but after a few months my kids would run over to him and say hey Scottie and want to play or if he was outside they would go out there and play with him. They thought the world of him as well. He was like my big kid. He would come over and eat dinner with us so many nights I cant count on mine and Jamie's hands and feet. He would make himself right at home and sit and talk and watch tv and play with the kids. He was so nice and so honest. We lived near him and Chris for almost 3 years and when we moved it really was different as he had told friends that he missed us being beside him. Scottie was a wonderful guy and friend. I will always and forever remember scottie. He was one of the nicest most pure people I have ever met and I am so thankful that the Lord gave him to us as a friend. My mother passed about almost 13 years ago when she was 36 years old and he was one years shy of her being 36. Her birthday was the day after he passed away and I think that if she would have met Scottie before she passed away she would have loved him and mothered him too. He was my big kid. I know that she was honored to have him home for her birthday. She may no longer be on this earth to mother me but now she is there to mother scottie. She will embrace him with her wings.I know they are together. I miss him so bad and he will always have a special place in my heart. I know that he is home. We love you always.

Scottie this poem is for you:

My whole heart wants to ache
it hurts so bad,

They way he went was so terrible
it is so sad,

Such a wonderful guy to leave this way
it is so hard to take it day by day,

He was alone when it happened and it tears me apart
to imagine his thoughts and the beat of his heart,

I am so thankful for the friendship and the words we shared
I just dont know why his life was not spared,

When I think of about the honesty and the giggle he would give
That just gives him more reason to live,

It is so hard to take in and you are not supposed to ask why
I just know that he is welcomed home beyond the sky,

I would rather have a memory to grasp and remember
To hold on to a soul so loving and so tender,

My heart wants to melt and I just want to cry
I just really don't know why you had to die,

But you are now in a life where you have no pain
We will remember you at the river and the smell of the rain,

You are with us always and forever so true
Our hearts will always hold a special place for you.

I am glad that I was your friend. I would rather have a heart full of memories then a lifetime with nothing. You taught us that there is no way to be a perfect friend. But a million ways to be a really great one. We love you always and forever. Casey, Jamie, Sierra, JJ and Dusty Healey

To the Denton Family,
I cannot begin to imagine your sorrow and pain in this time of loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
I remember like it was yesterday, growing up, playing in the woods at Scottie's house or at our house which were just 2 houses apart- going sleigh riding down the driveways and into the streets, playing outside all day and staying out until dark waiting for both our father's to either start whistling or calling that is was time to come in for the night.
My sister, Laura and I will always remember and hold these childhood memories very dear to our hearts. I will always remember Scottie laughing and being a very kind hearted person.
May God bless and help you continue to hold your loved ones near and close to your heart.

Scotty, It has been many a year since I had seen you and the impression you left on my children will last a lifetime. I remember you and my youngest daughter running around the yard and I have fond memories of the friendship that you two held dear. I am sorry that you left this planet so young and unfullfilled, but rest asured, your kindness to my children and the lasting impression will extend forever. I am sorry that the time was brief, but know that quality surpasses quantity any day. My daughters and I will miss the ability to reconnect here, but will do so another day.

Scottie,

For you, Scooty Bubba Grandpa....that was my nickname for you throughout school. I knew how much you hated being called Scooty, but you always smiled when I did so. Kami and Casey looked up to you so much, so it was so cute to hear them calling you Bubba. As for Grandpa, we used to sit on my front porch and pretend to be old and talk about the 'kids these days', so the nickname stuck, remember?

You were my first childhood friend and I'll always remember you sharing your toy guns and screaming when Kim and I chased you with our painted fingernails. Then, throughout school, you were always there to listen to me. I used to tease you for your love of new shoes and shopping! So many wonderful memories and even though this is so hard for me, I know that one day, I'll be sitting in my rocker and you'll come walking up my driveway and we'll talk about those good ole days again in heaven.

To the Denton family,
Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you now and always. Scottie was family to me too and I will miss him so much. If there is anything I can do, ever, please just ask and I will be there for you.

Kami and Casey, I know your Bubba is still here with you as he is for me. He always will be. My love to you all...

And how excited he was that the girls moved back to King William!! Every time I would stop at Food Lion, and he was working, he would greet me with the biggest smile and say, "Mama Johnson, where have you been? Oh, Lord, I bet you're up to no good!!!" And I would laugh and hug him!! Love and prayers to you all

The Denton Family:
I am in a state of shock myself I can't imagine what your going thru. When I found out on Monday I could not beleive it - Scottie was one of the most personable people I knew. There was not a time that I would go into Food Lion that he did not greet me and want to know if I had seen Kami lately and how I was doing -- He never over the years as time went on seem to forget as people tend to do as our lives take different paths that his sister and I were best friends. He will truley be missed.. May god bless your entire family in the days to come. Kami I have already told you this should you need anything you know where to reach me---

To the entire Denton Family,

Ive known Scottie for quite awhile now as Casey and my brother Ryan have been friends for years and have gotten to know him even better since he moved in with Chris several years ago. Words cant describe how I felt when I got the call Monday morning of Scotties passing. He was a person who didnt know a stranger and always would be in a good mood. Everytime I saw him he would ask about my brother and then would always talk about Casey and tell me how he was doing or when he was coming home. Casey you might have been his little brother but he really looked up to you. He always loved going to the river whether it be to see his grandfather or to just get away. To the entire family just know that you all are in my prayers and I just ask anyone who reads this to keep Chris in your prayers as well because him and Scottie were roommates and Chris unfortunately was their throughout the whole ordeal. Again if anyone needs anything just let me know.
