Nancy Ann Denton ObituaryNancy Ann Denton (née Lemons), age 79, passed away on June 15th, 2025 in Bel Air, MD after a brief struggle with illness.
Born in Sussex County, New Jersey, she was a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, known for her love for theatre, her voracious appetite for reading, and her ability to accept anyone who needed a family as her own.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Denton, Sr. She is survived by her three children, Lithia Marie Knopp, Ralph Denton, Jr., and Rance Denton, as well as her four step children, Paula Wood, Laurie Denton, Jaqui Hall, and Diana Szmurlo, in addition to her younger sister Julie Shay. She's also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Jakob Knopp and Kaleb Knopp.
Throughout her life, Nancy made a meaningful impact as a registered nurse, both in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam and in various civilian hospitals after her honorable discharge in June of 1969. She worked in nursing homes, drug rehabilitation centers, and for the Veterans Administration. In her spare time she could be found on the stage, frequently performing in local theatre productions. Nancy had a love of animals and regularly volunteered at pet adoption shelters.
Nancy and Ralph shared 49 years of marriage together. Upon his death in 2018, she sought to travel the world, including going to the Vatican in Italy, and Vienna, Austria.
Nancy lived her life in service to others, always ready to lend a hand or a listening ear. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were touched by her life.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025, from 2:00 - 4:00pm and 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Harkins Funeral Home in Delta, PA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Pylesville, MD at 10 A.M. on Saturday, June 21st. Interment will follow at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
