Obituary published on Legacy.com by Somerset Undertaking Co. and Crematory - Somerset on Nov. 22, 2025.
Lloyd "Murrell" Denton, 74, of Science Hill, Kentucky passed away peacefully on November 21st, surrounded in love by his devoted wife and daughters. A man whose presence lit up every room he entered, Murrell leaves behind a legacy of unwavering faith, deep devotion to family, and countless stories that will continue to be shared for generations.
Murrell is preceded in death by his mother, Della Coffey Denton; father, Lloyd Denton; sisters, Jean, Connie, and Gail; and his mother-in-law, Imogene Sweet.
He is survived by the love of his life, Jacqueline Sweet Denton, whom he married on June 14th, 1969. Their 56 years of marriage stand as a testament to true partnership, dedication, and enduring love. Their loyal dog, Dan-Murrell's steadfast companion-never left his side.
Murrell's legacy continues through his children: Lloyd Allen Denton; Mandy (Dewayne) Davis; Julie (Brandon) Mink; and Jimmy (Amanda) Denton. He was a proud grandfather to Ryan (Rachel) Denton; MaKayla (Josh) Williamson-Hansman; Zachary (Ilyse) Godsey; Ethan Godsey; Luke Godsey; Jazlyn Williamson; Abby Denton; Alex Denton; Eli Denton; and James Denton. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren Maddux and Liam Denton, and many step-children including Malory Davis.
Murrell is further survived by his siblings Charlie, Mary Lou, and Charolette, as well as many dear friends-particularly his cherished friend Marvin (Louise) Bullock, with whom he shared countless special memories.
A hardworking man, Murrell spent many years hauling coal as a truck driver. His stories from the road were endless, and anyone fortunate enough to enjoy a conversation with him surely heard at least one tale from his time behind the wheel. His work ethic was matched only by his love for music, time spent tinkering in his garage, sharing laughs, and surrounding himself with family.
Murrell lived a life anchored in faith. His family finds comfort knowing that he was confident in his eternal home and embraced God's promise with certainty and peace. In one of his final reminders to those he loved most, he asked that his family take care of his beloved Jacqueline-a reflection of a life lived with a tender and loyal heart.
To truly capture Murrell's spirit, it is fitting to turn to a line from his favorite song, I Can Only Imagine:
"I can only imagine when all I will do is forever, forever worship You."
Murrell will be deeply missed, but his love, laughter, and stories will live on in all who knew him.
