Ernest Saunders Ellis

ELLIS, Ernest Saunders, age 87, of Midlothian, passed away September 9, 2008. He was born in Wilson, N.C., to John and Carrie Ellis. He is survived by his wife, Nellie Hudson Ellis, of 66 years of marriage; three children, E. Duane Ellis and his wife, Susan, of Midlothian, Barbara Ellis Williams and her husband, Glenn, of Richmond, Michael S. Ellis and his wife, Heidi, of Midlothian; grandchildren, Mary D. Ellis, Allison E. Taylor and her husband, Adam, Rebecca Williams, Lee Ann Williams, Sean M. Ellis, Stacy E. Ellis, T.J., Ben, Emily and Molly Jack; two great-grandchildren, Katie and Lacy. Mr. Ellis retired from the Navy in 1959. He had served in the Pacific Theater in WWII, where he was in American Samoa, Guadalcanal, New Zealand, and toured most of the world while in the Navy. After retiring from the Navy, he worked for Exxon and retired from there in 1979. He was a charter member of Fleet Reserve Branch 219, member of Masonic Lodge 161, Scottish Rite, Acca Shrine Temple, Legion of Honor. His remains rest at Bliley's-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and where funeral services will be held 12 noon Friday. Interment 2 p.m. Friday at Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, Fla. 33607. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Johnston-Willis Hospital for the wonderful care he received during his illness and the staff and nurses at Brandermill Woods.
